Construction of Melamchi Drinking Water Processing Centres completes

Kathmandu: The construction of two Melamchi Drinking Water Processing Centres has been completed at Sundarijal, Kathmandu.

According to Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee, each centre has the capacity of processing 8.5 million litres of water on a daily basis.

In total, the two processing centres would daily process total 170 million litres of water which will be supplied to the households in the Kathmandu Valley. Committee’s Information Officer Rajendra Prasad Pant informed that one processing centre was built in assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and another in aid of the Asian Development Bank.

Experiments would be conducted in the processing centres with the water of the Bagmati River, shared Panta, adding that remaining works of the much-awaited project was undergoing with an objective to finish it within the stipulated time.

The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has been assuring that the project would be able to supply the drinking water from mid-July this year.

The Chinese company -Sino Hydro Limited – has been tasked to build the project’s head works and tunnel related works.
