Bipin Joshi’s family meets PM Prachanda

Kathmandu, April 19: The family of Bipin Joshi met Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar this morning and requested the PM for further efforts for Bipin’s release.

Joshi, a Nepali student in Israel, is taken captive by the Hamas militants in course of their October 7, 2023 attack in southern Israel.

According to the PM’s secretariat, Joshi’s parents and family members visited the PM to request Bipin’s release.

In response, PM Prachanda said he was worried about Bipin’s status and that the government was making continuous efforts for the same adding that he was hopeful of positive results soon.

Construction of Bailey bridge along Bheri corridor in final stage

Surkhet, April 19: Installation of a bailey bridge at Tallu over Bheri river along the Bheri corridor has reached the final stage.

Project Chief Sunil Ranjitkar told RSS that all plates of the Bailey bridge have been fixed and the remaining base plates would be installed from Saturday. The bridge is considered a lifeline for the districts of Dolpa, Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim in Karnali Province. 

According to Ranjitkar, they have planned to complete the entire work of the bridge within a week. The government has allocated Rs 38.1 million for the construction of the Bailey bridge at Tallu that connects Dolpa, Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts.  

The bridge is a crucial road infrastructure as it establishes a road link between Nepal, India and China.

Light rain likely in hilly areas

Kathmandu, April 19: Due to impacts of the westerly and local winds, the hilly region in the country including in Sudurpaschim is witnessing rain at present, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. The weather in the rest of the part is generally fair.

There is a possibility of light rain with thunder and lightning at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi province and some places in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces. There is also a possibility of light snowfall at one or two places in the high hilly and mountainous regions of the country.

Tonight, the weather will remain fair with the possibility of light rain in one or two places in the hilly parts of the country.

Likewise, light rain coupled with thunderstorms is expected in one or two places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces. Furthermore, Lumbini and some places in the plains of Sudurpaschim Province are likely to experience storms, according to the weather bulletin issued by the Department this morning.

Interactions on book “Bhaktapur after 100 Years”

Bhaktapur, April 19: Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party (NWPP) Chairperson Narayan Man Bijukchhe has said the local government is the foundation of democracy.

The local level should be made powerful to strengthen democracy, Bijukchhe said shedding light on his book “Bhaktapur after 100 Years” at a programme organized on Thursday on the occasion of the 42nd World Heritage Day. Bijukchhe’s book delves into the cultural heritages and their preservation.

On the occasion, he argued that the new generation should be encouraged to work honestly for the development of Bhaktapur city. 

The ancient buildings are the identity of the town and the municipality should promote the construction of buildings that replicate the design and style of the ancient buildings.

Also speaking at the event, Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality Sunil Prajapati appreciated the book saying that it has a forecast of Bhaktapur city after 100 years.   

Likewise, the Director General of the Department of Archeology, Saubhagya Pradhananga, the book has contributed to preserving the unique features of Bhaktapur city. She added that the farsightedness and imagination of the writer would serve as a master plan for the development of a city for the new generation.

Historian Bishowmohan Joshi, Chairman of Bhaktapur Tourism Development Committee Dipesh Raj Sharma and other speakers shared their views on the relevance of Bijukchhe’s book.

Three dead, 52 injured as bus carrying wedding attendants plunges

Sindhupalchowk, April 19: Three persons died on the spot and 52 others were injured after a bus carrying wedding attendants fell off at Dharawati village in Piskar, Sindhupalchowk, at 7:00 this morning.

The bus (Ba 4 Kha 5616) was carrying wedding attendants from Dolakha district, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Niranjan Bhattarai said.

DSP Bhattarai said a rescue operation is ongoing to rush the injured ones to the hospitals.

As the bus plunged into the cliff, the security personnel are having difficulties in rescue jobs, Bhattarai added.

Fire destroys wheat crop in Kanchanpur, Kailali

Mahendranagar, April 19: A fire occurred at Dodhara Chandani Municipality in Kanchanpur district on Thursday destroyed the wheat crop grown in seven bigha of land.

Spokesperson of Dodhara Chandani Municipality Om Basnet said that the fallen electric cables on the trees caused the fire in the wheat farm too.   

He said the wheat farm of 15 farmers was gutted to cinders.

Likewise, the separate incidents of fire that happened in Joshipur and Bhajani in Kailai district also destroyed the wheat crop, police confirmed.
