Fire in wedding house causes loss of Rs 600,000

            Barahathawa (Sarlahi), April 24:  A fire broke out at a wedding house in Balara municipality-6, Mirzapur of Sarlahi district, caused a loss of Rs 600,000. Two people were injured in the fire incident.

            The house of Ram Chandra Mahato, a resident of Mirzapur, caught fire last night. District Police Spokesperson Deepak Shrestha said wedding materials worth Rs 600,000 was damaged in the fire.

            Short circuit was the cause behind the fire, it is said. Two people sustained burn injuries while taking out wedding goods and materials from the house. Both the injured are being treated at a local health facility.

Shrestha nominated as Chamber’s Advisory Council Chair

            Kathmandu, April 24 : Rajesh Kaji Shrestha has been nominated the Chairperson of Advisory Council of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce.

            Also the former Chairperson of the Chamber, Shrestha has been entrusted with the responsibility of the chair of its advisory council. Among others nominated as members in the council having the advisory role for the institutional development and capacity enhancement of entrepreneurs are former chairpersons of the Chamber, Mahesh Kumar Agrawal, Surendra Bir Malakar and Suresh Kumar Basnet.

            In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Chamber said that the Council has the role of establishing coordination between government and private sector, expanding international relations, protecting the rights and welfare of entrepreneurs and business fraternity and strengthening private sector role.

Forest fire destroys 700 hectares forest area in Myagdi

            Galeswor (Myagdi), April 24: Myagdi district has suffered the largest scale of damage in forest fire among 11 districts of Gandaki province.

            According to the Division Forest Office, around 700 hectares of forest area of the district has been ruined in forest fire spanning 45 days. Forest fire had spread in 111 forests of all six local level governments in Myagdi from March first week to April last week. The forest fire ravaged 693 hectares of forest area in the district.

            The Gandaki Province Forest Directorate also said that Myagdi had witnessed the damage of larger section of forest among the 11 districts in the province. Locals residing around the forest area said they were dreadful with the menacing expansion of forest fire. Tek Bahadur Pun, a local of Malika rural municipality-6 said the forest fire had caused fatalities of several wild species.

            Division Forest Office Chief Bishnu Adhikari said the incidents of forest fire are taking place every day in the forests of Beni municipality, Malika, Mangala, Raghuganga, Dhawalagiri and Annapurna rural municipalities in the district.

            He said forest fire has been taken under control in some forests while some are still seen with bellowing of dense smoke. He further shared that the locals and security personnel were urged to distribute fire extinguishing equipment to contain the forest fire. The wildlife has also started entering into human settlements to protect them from ravaging forest fire, locals said. The wildlife has sneaked into the human settlements in search of safer habitat and food with the outbreak of fire in the forests of Malika and Mangala rural municipalities.

            “Monkeys and boars have ruined the crops cultivated in fields. We are being victimized with the wildlife entering into the homes of late”, said Tikanath Kandel, a farmer of Mangala rural municipality-5.

            The wildlife rampage has also victimized residents of Malika rural municipality-6, Upallo Dukhu, ward number 1 (Niskot) and ward 2 (Room). Meanwhile, according to the news received from Tamghas, the fire that spread from dry wheat stalks has destroyed a two-story house of Saroj Saru of Ruruchhetra rural municipality-5, Dhobighat. The fire destroyed grains, clothes and utensils kept inside the house.

            Likewise, a fire that engulfed the 10-room house of Bharat Karki of Bhojpur municipality-8, Pokhare gutted properties worth Rs 4.2 million, informed Police Inspector of the District Police Office, Bishal Limbu. He said the fire destroyed cash Rs 450,000, 13 tolas gold, 10 tolas silver, two sets LED TV, mobile set and furniture among other house appliances.

Storm likely to occur in Tarai, weather to remain clear in remaining regions

            Kathmandu, April 24 : The Meteorological Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has predicted partly cloudy weather in the hilly region and generally fair in remaining parts of the country.

            According to the Division, the weather will be partly cloudy in the hilly areas of Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces and mainly fair in remaining areas of the country this afternoon.

            Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at a few places of Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Light snowfall is forecasted to occur at one or two places of the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. There is a possibility of thunderstorm in some places of the Tarai including Lumbini province.

            Similarly, the weather will be partly cloudy in hilly regions of Koshi, Gandaki and Karnali provinces tonight. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places of the hilly regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces in the afternoon and night.

            In view of possible incidents of storm in some places of the Tarai including Lumbini Province, the Division said cautioned the general public to adopt safety measures in the areas.

Three killed in a road accident

            Bhadrapur (Jhapa), April 24: Three persons died in a road accident that occurred at Shivasatakshi-8, Jhiljhile in Jhapa this morning.

            According to Spokesperson at the District Police Office, Jhapa, Krishna Kumar Chand, the three persons died in the road mishap that occurred when a motorcycle (Me 3 Pa 5001) heading towards Surunga from Damak collided with a jeep (Province.1-01-001 Cha 9329) coming from the opposite direction on the East-West Highway.

            They breathed their last while undergoing treatment. The Area Police Office has initiated necessary investigation by arresting jeep driver. The deceased have yet to be identified.

Qatari Emir, PM Dahal to meet today

            Kathmandu, April 24: Emir of the State of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani who is on a two-day state visit to Nepal and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is having a meeting today.

            In the bilateral delegation-level talks between the two countries headed by the Qatari Emir and Prime Minister Dahal on Wednesday, overall aspects of Nepal-Qatar relations and the matters concerning regional as well as international interests will be discussed, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

            After the talks, bilateral agreements and Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) would be signed on the presence of the two leaders. A MoU will be signed between Nepal and Qatar regarding cooperation in the field of youth and sports, higher education and scientific research.

            Likewise, a MoU on news exchange will also be signed between Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) and Qatar News Agency. Spokesperson at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amrit Bahadur Rai told RSS that the two countries are scheduled to sign a MoU on art and culture, office of the Attorney General and foreign affairs.

            PM Dahal will host a lunch in honour of the Qatari Emir. Qatar’s Emir Thani arrived here on Tuesday afternoon at the invitation of President Ramchandra Paudel. The visiting Qatari dignitary is scheduled to leave Kathmandu this afternoon.

Government effortful to develop country a medical education hub-PM Dahal

            Kathmandu, April 24: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stressed the need to remain alert with the new challenges emerging in health sector.

In his address to the first convocation ceremony of the Patan Academy of Health Sciences today, PM Dahal instructed the agencies concerned to pay special attention to resolve the problems seen in health sector.

            “The Academy should develop more infrastructure to overcome and manage any challenges that may arise in the health sector”, he said, laying special emphasis on making the hospital services more quality and effective.

            On the occasion, the Prime Minister underlined the need to produce skilled and socially responsible doctors for quality health care in rural areas, according to the PM’s personal secretariat. Underscoring the need to expand access of health services to the rural areas, PM Dahal cited COVID-19 pandemic situation to note the general public of Nepal can get universal health care services only if the public health institutions are effective and efficient.

            The government has placed high priority on developing capacity of all public hospitals, the PM said, instructing the Academy to take further initiative to provide specialized health services, including access to health services to all, quality of service as well as identifying social, cultural and environmental factors affecting public health in the community.

            PM Dahal also took the opportunity to appreciate the Academy’s recent initiatives of launching health insurance and community-based service delivery in collaboration with local governments.

            The Prime Minister highlighted the urgency for establishing an integrated institute of health sciences and removal of duplication in medical education and health services for the management, operation and regulation of all medical and health sciences related institutions in the country.

            “Attention should be paid on enhancing capacity of all health institutions to provide basic and quality health services to all citizens”, he said, informing the government was making necessary ground works towards developing Nepal as a hub of medical education.
