Kathmandu, June 10: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ who is presently on an official visit to India today paid a courtesy call on the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
During the meeting held at the New Delhi-based Rastrapati Bhawan, matters relating to centuries-old relations existing between Nepal and India and mutual interests were discussed. Similarly, the two exchanged views on strengthening the people-to-people relations between the two neighbors, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
The Prime Minister attended the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi elected the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term. Following the oath-taking ceremony, the two held a bilateral meeting. On the occasion, Prime Minister Dahal congratulated his Indian counterpart on assuming office for the third term.
On Sunday evening, Prime Minister Dahal attended a dinner hosted by the President of India.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by his daughter and private secretary Ganga Dahal, Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, and other senior government officials during the visit. He is scheduled to return home today.

Jaishankar calls on PM Dahal, thanks him for attending Modi’s swearing-in ceremony
Kathmandu, June 10: India’s newly appointed Minister S Jaishankar today paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
The Prime Minister who is presently on an official visit to India attended the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi who was elected the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
During the delegates-level meeting with the Indian minister that took place at the Taj Hotel where the Prime Minister is residing, the two discussed the matters relating to Nepal-India relations, bilateral interests, and the implementation of understandings and agreements reached between the two neighbors.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Dahal congratulated Jaishankar on his appointment to the post of federal minister, wishing him a successful term. He expressed his hope the relations between the two countries would further strengthen in the days to come.
Minister Jaishankar thanked the Prime Minister and the Government of Nepal for the Prime Minister’s presence in the oath-taking ceremony of Prime Minister Modi. He said the Indian government is serious about the implementation of understandings and agreements between the two countries and the progress towards that end is satisfactory.
Prime Minister Dahal’s daughter and private secretary Ganga Dahal, Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, and senior officials from the Embassy and the Indian government were present during the meeting.
The Prime Minister left here for New Delhi on Sunday to witness the oath-taking ceremony of Modi.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, the two held a bilateral meeting. On the occasion, Prime Minister Dahal congratulated his Indian counterpart on assuming office for the third term.
On Sunday evening, Prime Minister Dahal attended a dinner hosted by the President of India.
He is scheduled to return home today.

Eye Treatment Centre establishes at Pyauli, Bhojpur
Taksar (Bhojpur), June 10: An Eye Treatment Service Center has been established in Pyauli, in the district. The treatment center was jointly established by Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangha and Arun Rural Municipality.
Tej Moktan, chairman of the Sangha, informed that the eye treatment service center has come into operation in Pyauli of Arun Rural Municipality with the aim of providing eye treatment services to the citizens of the eastern region of the district.
The vice chair of the rural municipality, Binita Dhakal, shared that the locals are pleased with the establishment of the service center in their own village.

08- President Paudel appoints two non-resident ambassadors
Kathmandu, June 10: President Ram Chandra Paudel has appointed two non-resident ambassadors. Ram Prasad Subedi, Nepal’s resident ambassador to Switzerland has been appointed as the non-resident ambassador to San Marino.
Likewise, Lok Bahadur Thapa, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations in New York has been appointed as the non-resident ambassador to the Republic of Nicaragua.
President Paudel appointed the non-resident ambassadors on the recommendations of the Council of Ministers in accordance with Article 282 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal, according to the Office of the President.

09- Middle Marsyangdi’s power generation restored to full capacity
Lamjung, June 10: Power production from the Middle Marsyangdi Hydropower Station in Lamjung has been restored at full capacity. The present power generation is 70 megawatts.
Production of the project had dropped during the winter due to lower water levels in the river. However, with sufficient water flow now, the hydropower station has returned to full-fledged production. Production had dropped to 24 MW in December but began increasing in mid-March, finally reaching full capacity three days ago.
The project is supported by two turbines, each with a capacity of 35 MW for production. Completed in 2008 at a cost of Rs 27 billion 200 million, this serves as the first electricity project in the district.

12- Monsoon arrives in Nepal
Kathmandu, June 10: This year’s monsoon has entered the country from eastern Nepal. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, this year’s monsoon entered the country via the eastern part of Koshi Province.
June 13 is a tentative date for the arrival of monsoon and this year, it made its presence three days earlier. It will be advanced gradually to other parts of the country.
According to forecasts by the Division, the monsoon season this year is expected to bring 35 to 55 percent more rainfall than the average.

13- Parliamentarians pledged to provide policy support to LMC
Kathmandu, June 10. Parliamentarians elected from various constituencies in Lalitpur district have expressed their commitment to provide policy-level support to the Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) for it to effectively deliver citizen-friendly services.
The House of Representatives (HoR) members and Province Assembly (PA) members also reaffirmed their commitment to support the local government in Lalitpur to increase capital expenditure.
During an interaction with the LMC on the newly unveiled annual policies, programs, and budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2024–25 today, former State Minister and parliamentarian Udaya Shumsher Rana wished that capital expenditures see an increase and policies be placed that would revive the economy. He promised that they would provide support up to the hilt for the Metropolis to render public services.
Furthermore, he viewed that effective waste management should be taken into consideration besides ensuring convenient parking facilities. He pressed for commercializing underground parking and bringing such a facility under the ambit of taxation.
Similarly, HoR member Dr. Toshima Karki suggested the Metropolis collect taxation on the basis of citizens’ feedback and their satisfaction with public service delivery.
The revenue collected from taxation should be spent prudently, she stressed.
Drawing attention towards an effective sewerage management system, she brought to the attention of the issues relating to the deterioration of the Mall Pokhari at Ward No. 4 and Dhapakhel by the wastages leaked from sewerage.
She also highlighted the need for policies for conservation of heritages and prompt reconstruction of quake-damaged heritages such as Rudrayani and Rato Machchhindranath Temple, among others.
Similarly, HoR member Prem Bahadur Maharjan expressed his happiness that the upcoming annual policies, programmes, and budget were focused on the development of physical infrastructure.
He suggested incorporating policies and programmess aimed at minimizing air pollution and urged promoting bicycle usage within the Metropolis for the same.
Another HoR member, Roshan Karki, opined that Metropolis should prevent the federal government from selling off Radio Nepal’s land to the Nepal Telecommunications Company.
Among the host of recommendations, he suggested scaling up the community schools and ensuring easy and smooth registration of childbirth for the children born within the Metropolis.
PA member Ram Krishna Chitrakar commended Metropolis’s delivery on heritage conservation and achieved Sustainable Development Goals and viewed that the conservation bid should be continued.
Another Province Assembly member, Prem Bhakta Maharjan, emphasized optimizing arable land within the metropolis and viewed that one pocket area in each ward of the metropolis be declared to promote agricultural product.
Raghunath Maharjan, calling for conservation of ‘Dhunge Dhara’ (stone spout), stressed brining ‘Rajkulo’ (royal canal) into operation at the earliest.
LMC Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan argued that the policy that mandates calling a tender for the construction of physical infrastructure in heritage areas should not be adopted and implemented.
He urged the participating parliamentarians to raise their voices in parliament regarding this issue.
He asserted that the Public Procurement Act-2063 BS was detrimental to the development of the country and thus called for revising it.
He also opined that the agreement inked by the federal government for Kathmandu Valley’s waste management was a hurdle in itself.
He vowed to take into consideration the recommendations furnished by the lawmakers for the greater good of the metropolis and heritage and environmental conservation.
Deputy Mayor Manjali Shakya assured to deliver in accordance with the principle of collaboration and co-existence to address the aspirations of the citizens.
According to her, the Metropolis has allocated an adequate budget to ensure drinking water facilities for the Lalitpur residents.

14- NA member argues, initiatives for climate change compensation
Kathmandu, June 10: National Assembly member Tulasa Kumari Dahal has suggested that international initiatives should be taken for climate compensation.
Participating in the meeting of the National Assembly today, MP Dahal pointed out that there is a loss of wealth due to the problems caused by the effects of climate change.
She further emphasized that diplomatic initiatives should be taken for financial assistance as compensation.
She said that even though the role of developing countries like Nepal, which is responsible for climate change, is negligible, they have to bear the burden of climate change and its adverse effects in every sector.

15- President Paudel leaving for Geneva tomorrow
Kathmandu, June 10: President Ramchandra Paudel will be leaving for Geneva, Switzerland tomorrow, Tuesday. He is scheduled to attend the inaugural Forum of Global Coalition Social Justice that will take place during the High-level Segment of the 112th Session of the International Labour Conference.
The President will address the inaugural Forum on June 13. He will also hold bilateral talks with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Viola Amherd, on June 12, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This is the first time that a bilateral meeting has been scheduled between the Head of the State from Nepal and the President of the Swiss Confederation.
From Geneva, the President will leave for Berlin on June 15 in the course of an official visit to Germany at the invitation of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank Walter Steinmeier. He will hold official talks with the German President on June 17.
He will be accompanied by his spouse Sabita Paudel, Dr Suresh Chalise, foreign affairs expert to the President, secretaries of the Office of the President and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ambassadors of Nepal to Switzerland and Germany, and senior officials of the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
