Published Date : September 16, 2019

Surunga, Sept 16: Dengue that was seen in Jhapa district three months back has not yet come under control. The disease could not be contained as the the District Public Health Office, Jhapa as well as the local level governments in the district have not been able to carry out effective works to check the disease.

The District Public Health Office, Jhapa stated that more than 500 people are infected with dengue in the district at present. They are being treated in various hospitals in Jhapa. Office’s information officer Kul Bahadur Poudel said an emergency situation might occur in the district if the present situation persisted.

According to him, although programmes for controlling dengue until last year are over now no new programmes have been introduced for this year. He said the local levels should have shown interest in controlling dengue in coordination with the District Health Office but none of the local levels has come seeking its support so far.

Two people have died due to dengue in Jhapa district so far. Although no death attributed to dengue has occurred in Jhapa this year, an alarming situation might arise if the number of infected people increases at the present rate, Poudel said.
