Kanchanpur, Oct 18 : A technical team has been carrying out field study to resume Majhgaun airport at Bhimduttanagar municipality of Kanchanpur district, which has remained closed for the past two decades.
A five-member technical team of Realpath Engineering Consultancy arrived Bhimduttanagar at the initiative of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation. The airport was closed since 2056 BS, citing insecurity.
Team leader Engineer Gundutta Adhikari said that the technical team has started its work from Thursday and it would submit its report to the Ministry.
The team would carry out study of old physical infrastructures, runway, airport ground as well as other technical issues.
Adhikari said that 1,880-meter long runway is necessary to operate 72-seat aircraft. Although 70 bighas of land is necessary to operate big aircraft, Majhgaun airport has 65 bighas of land.
Coordinator of Majhgaun airport Resumption Struggle Committeem which has been exerting pressure to resume the airport, Ramesh Chand pointed out the need of joining hands by all to resume the airport.
Bhimduttanagar municipality has allocated Rs 2 million in this fiscal year to help in operation of the airport, said Mayor Surendra Bista.
He said that they have been knocking the door of state and federal governments for the same.
