Published Date : November 2, 2019

Tanahun, Nov 2 : Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday said the government should work in tandem with opposition parties for country’s development and people’s welfare.

“Opposition parties will support the government for good works. The government should take all sides into confidence,” he said while launching an autobiography of NC late leader Gobardhan Sharma Pokharel entitled ‘Mero Jiban Yatra (Journey of my life)’ amid a function here.

Accusing the two-thirds majority government led by Nepal Communist Party (NCP) of pursuing a path of communism, he maintained that such act would in no way be acceptable to the NC. “The government is led by communist party. But the country is not communist. The NC which has been fighting for democracy since 2007 BS cannot go against democracy.”

Asserting that the NC would never compromise in defending democracy and its values, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel stressed the need to defeat conspiracies being hatched to weaken democracy. “Democracy gets frail when NC becomes weak. So there is a need to strengthen NC to safeguard democracy.”

He also suggested to the government to utilize power of two-thirds majority for the welfare of the country in a wise manner. NC General Secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala pointed out the need for all to unite and consolidate the party to win next elections.

On the occasion, senior journalist Kul Chandra Wagle, also senior vice president of the Democratic Thought Society, reviewed the book calling for all to go through and understand the struggles of leader Pokharel in the movement for establishing democracy.
