Congress President Deuba and Bangladeshi President Hamid meet

Kathmandu : Visiting Bangladeshi President Mohammad Abdul Hamid has paid a courtesy call on Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba here today.

President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Hamid arrived Nepal on Tuesday on the four-day official goodwill visit to Nepal at the invitation of President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

During today’s meeting, President Hamid and Deuba held discussions on the issues of mutual interests, economic partnership and development, according to Dr Narayan Khadka, who was also present in the meeting.

Furthermore, the meeting featured the issues such as connectivity, energy assistance, use of Bangladesh’s ports and Bangladesh purchasing electricity from Nepal among others.

The Bangladeshi President, in response, said that Bangladesh was willing to purchase electricity from Nepal and was ready to purchase electricity generated here. Pressing for the need to increase the frequency of the high-level visits between Bangladesh and Nepal, which he said was low in the present.

Expressing his happiness over Nepal’s moral support to Bangladesh in its independence movement, he shared that the government of Bangladesh had feted 13 Nepalis for their contribution to Bangladesh in various capacities.

Earlier, the Bangladeshi President had held a meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs while meetings with National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timalsina and Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal took place today.

President Hamid is scheduled to hold a meeting with his Nepali counterpart President Bhandari, Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today itself.

He is scheduled to return home on November 15.
