SC issues show cause order in regard with government efforts for border security

Published Date : November 15, 2019

Kathmandu : The Supreme Court (SC) today issued a show cause order in the name of the government regard with efforts underway for border security.

A single bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumser JB Rana gave this order, executing two separate writ petitions about the protection of Nepali land along the Nepal-India border. The writs were filed by Phanidra Nepal and advocate Kanchan Krishna Neupane.

Both writs filed on November 13 seek a prior right to conduct a hearing and a reply in writing about the border security issues within the 15 days of the registration.

Through the writs, it has been demanded that a present political map of Nepal issued by the Survey Department should be revised so as to include Limpiyadhura as part of Nepal.

“The Sugauli Treaty recognizes Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura as parts of the Nepal,” said one of the writ petitioners, Nepal.

The writs state that Nepal’s territory is spread to 147,181 square kilometers and the present map does not match with this measurement as Limpiyadhura has been excluded from it, seeking the diplomatic efforts to find a solution to the encroachment on Kalapani, Lipulek, and Limpiyadhura by the Indian side and the protection of Nepali territory along with national integrity, nationality, sovereignty, independence and so on.
