Wheat zone programme implemented in West Nawalparasi

Parasi, Dec 10, 2019: A ‘wheat zone’ programme has been implemented at four local levels in West Nawalparasi.

The programme implemented under the Federal Government’s Prime Minister Agriculture Modernisation Programme has been in force here since the current fiscal year (2019-20).

It covers Ramgram municipality (wards 16 and 18), Sunwal municipality (wards 11 and 12),  Palhinandan rural municipality (ward 6) and Sarawal rural municipality (wards 3 and 4), according to Project Implementation Unit Chief senior agricultural officer Rakesh Kumar Ojha.

The project aims to transform the traditional wheat farming in the area into commercial one.  Increase in production and self-sufficiency have been focused.  Its coverage will be expanded gradually. 

Distribution of modern agricultural tools to farmers, training, small irrigation programme, establishment of post-harvest centers and custom hiring centers will take place during the course of implementation of programme. Presently, wheat cultivation occupies 6,915 hectares of land in West Nawalparasi.
