KATHMANDU: Nepal will face India on Saturday evening in the final of the SAAF Football Championship 2021.
Nepali Assistant Coach Kiran Shrestha claimed that the Nepali team would present a strong challenge against India. Nepal had lost to India in the league stage match.
The Nepali team was criticized for playing extremely defensively. Explaining the question, Assistant Coach Shrestha said, “We will play honestly keeping in mind the mistakes made by the team in that game. We will play to win this time and our goal is to win. Nepal also deserves to win.”
This is the first time in the 28-year long history of the Nepal SAFF Championship that it has reached the final. India have won a record seven times and are playing in the final for the eighth time in a row. India have played the final of each edition since 2005.
During the pre-match conference, the captain of the Nepali team Kiran Limbu claimed that Maldives is the second home for him and claimed that football fans from Maldives will play in the final for the Nepali team.
He played professional football for TC Sports in Male for two seasons. “Football fans in the Maldives will be on Nepal’s side and we will come up with a strategy to win,” he said.
The final game will start from 8.45 pm in the evening.
