Nepal Police carries out investigations on 23 serious cases in a year

Kathmandu, March 28: The Nepal Police conducted successful investigations on 23 huge cases in the past year.

Organizing a news conference at Nepal Police Headquarters today, Nepal Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Bhim Prasad Dhakal said the Nepal Police completed investigations on Lalita Niwas land scam, 60 kilograms of gold, and also arrested Ram Bahadur Bamjon as a pedophile.

Furthermore, DIG Dhakal said the other serious cases invested by the Nepal Police during the last year include the embezzlement of Deurali cooperative, the arrest of Hundi traders, the scam of Shiva Shikhar cooperative, the seizure of 2,600 grams of cocaine, fake Bhutanese refugee scam, and others.

Dhakal shared that the Nepal Police filed altogether 59,061 cases across the country on different charges in a year. The highest number of cases include banking fraud.According to Dhakal, the number of cases is the highest in the Kathmandu Valley with 17,397 while Karnali Province has the lowest number of cases.

Likewise, the Nepal Police collected almost Rs 1.98 billion in fines and arrested 13,122 absconding ones. Furthermore, the Nepal Police brought 13 crime convicts from foreign countries with support from INTERPOL. 

As shared by DIG Dhakal, the Nepal Police collected Rs 6.63 billion in revenue in fines from illegal gold smuggling, implementation of court verdicts, illegal money transactions, traffic rules violations, and others.

22-       Dead body of youth jumping off Chisapani bridge found

Kailali, March 28: A youth who was missing after jumping off the Chisapani bridge in the Karnali River was found dead at around 4 this afternoon.

The Spokesperson of District Police Office, Kailali, Kuldip Chand confirmed that the dead body of Lokendra Shahi, 30, of Lamki Chuha Municipality-3 in Kailali district was obtained from the Sankattighat area of Tikapur Municipality.

Shahi had gone missing in the river from Monday.Immediately after the incident, divers and personnel of the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were mobilized in search of the youth.

The youths enjoying Holi festival had reached the bridge over the Karnali river to take photos and had jumped off the bridge and 16 other youths had crossed the river after swimming there.

23-       ‘Access to justice should be promoted’

Kathmandu, March 28: Chief Justice (CJ) Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha has called on the stakeholders to work to ensure prompt and inexpensive justice delivery for promoting access to justice. After a regular inspection of the Special Court on Thursday, the Chief Justice marked the beginning of the audio-visual hearing system and said that all should work for prompt and inexpensive justice delivery.

“I am also working. The entire judiciary is making efforts. The audiovisual hearing will also contribute,” CJ Shrestha. 

He argued that the audiovisual hearing started in Special Court would have more importance since this court is only in Kathmandu and hoped that the fresh beginning in Special Court would ensure accessible justice to the service recipients. 

On the occasion, he expressed happiness for the good process and performance of the Special Court in clearing the cases.

Likewise, Chairman of the Special Court Tek Narayan Kunwar said they were working to increase access to justice through the maximum and proper use of information technology. “Beginning for procedural reforms has taken place in judicial reforms,” Kunwar shared.

24-       First international conference on economics begins

Kathmandu, March 28: The first international economics conference kicked off today. The ‘First International Conference on Economics, 2024 (FICE-2024)’, organized by Patan Campus, will last on Friday, tomorrow.

Academic and intellectual personalities from Nepal along with India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia are participating in the conference organized under the aegis of the Economics Department of Patan Campus.

New areas such as climate change and labour migration have been added to the development of economics in the recent years.

Department Chief Raghubir Bista said the conference was organized to acquire and share innovative knowledge and preparation on the issue of development.

The theme of the conference is ‘New Emerging Dynamics on Economics’. A total of 38 research papers are being prepared on this topic and 11 technical sessions are being presented. Six sessions are being held today on the first day.

According to the organizing committee, ‘keynote speech’ by two expert speakers and a panel comprising five experts will be delivered on the occasion.

A total of 150 people are participating in the conference. Bista said that the conference aims to help gain knowledge through discussions on new development issues and help in developing clarity and foresight in policy making. “The conference will explore a new dimension to maintain economic quality and stability by adopting the development agenda with the newly created issues,” Bista said.

Economist Dr Laxman Singh Kumar appreciated the support received from various departments.As many as 150 participants are taking part in the conference. 

Bista said the conference aims to help in enhance knowledge through discussions on new development issues and help in developing clarity and foresight in policy making. “The conference will explore a new dimension to maintain quality and stability in the expansion of the economy by adopting the development agenda with the newly created issues,” Bista said.

According to him, economic slowdown, climate change, liquidity problems and declining domestic production are some of the main challenges.

On the occasion, speakers stressed the need to increase domestic production to meet the challenges in the economy and meet market demand and mitigate the impact of declining consumptions.

25-       Government fixes minimum support price of winter paddy

Kathmandu, March 28: The government has fixed the support price of winter paddy (chaite dhan).

A meeting of the Council of Ministers today has fixed the minimum support price of winter paddy with moisture up to 18 percent at Rs 2,728 for the current fiscal year 2080/81 BS.

The cabinet has decided to keep minimum support price for winter paddy with more than 18 per cent moisture on the basis of the weight maintained after reducing the weight at the rate of 1200 grams per quintal for one percent moisture.

The meeting also decided to approve Rs 77.5 billion for the seven provinces and Rs 77.5 billion for the local level as per the revenue sharing framework and distribution to be provided to the provinces and local level for the fiscal year 2081÷82 BS.

Similarly, the government has decided to approve fiscal equalization grant of Rs 60 billion for seven provinces and Rs 88 billion for local levels. The cabinet also decided to approve the annual report for the fiscal year 2079/80 BS and submit it to the President.

The cabinet decided to appoint Rishiram Bhandari, Rajendra Bahadur Lama and Ram Prasad Sapkota as the executive committee members of Nepal Tourism Board. Likewise, the meeting decided to promote Dr Hari Prasad Lamsal to the post of Secretary (gazetted special category) under the Nepal Administration Service Grouping.

26-       Home Minister says more expectations on coordination, cooperation with UK

            Kathmandu, March 28: British Ambassador to Nepal Rob Fenn on Thursday called on the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Rabi Lamichhane, at the Home Ministry.

            During the meeting, the Home Minister thanked the British Ambassador for the support, cooperation, and coordination extended to Nepal’s infrastructure development, social upliftment, capacity enhancement of government and non-governmental agencies, disaster management, and others.  

            Lamichhane said that Nepal has expected further coordination and cooperation from the British government in strengthening of democracy, climate change resilience, social inclusion, and reduction of social discrimination and marginalization.

            He also expressed confidence that the British government would resolve the issues of the British Gorkha army personnel. On the occasion, the British Ambassador shared that the British government would provide grant assistance for the reconstruction of physical properties damaged in the Jajarkot Earthquake and also to bring new projects for Nepal’s development partnership.

27-       Irregularities in MDMS procurement: Charge sheet filed against 20, including two former chairs

            Kathmandu, March 28: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against various employees of the Nepal Telecommunication Authority, including its former chairpersons Digambar Jha and Purushottam Prasad Khanal.

            The anti-graft constitutional body filed the case against them at the special court after finding irregularities in the procurement of mobile management system’s consulting service. The commission has filed a claim of Rs 919.8 million against then chairs Jha and Khanal, senior director Anandraj Khanal, deputy director Meen Prasad Aryal, assistant director Vinod Chandra Shrestha, director Dipesh Acharya, deputy director Surendra Lal Hada, deputy director Surya Prasad Lamichhane, deputy director Achyutanand Mishra, assistant directors Revatiram Panth, Sandeep Adhikari, Vijaykumar Rai Yadav, Pratiksha Paudel and Neerajan Koirala.

            The commission has also demanded that an additional amount of Rs 232 million 59 thousand be recovered from them as per the exchange rate of US dollar. Likewise, similar claims have been made against employees of Newmera Eden BHD Malaysia, Kabindra Raj Malla, Director of Namaste Global Common PTE Singapore, among others.

            The procurement of mobile management system was found malicious intention without the basis of confirmation.  According to the Commission, it has been found that the work was done without estimating the cost and accepting the bid by showing unnaturally high operational costs. Spokesperson of the Commission Narahari Ghimire said a case has been filed today demanding action against the accused.

28-       Present coalition is not power-focused, Oli argues

            Jhapa, March 28: Former Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said the present ruling alliance was not formed to serve the interests of the participating parties. Oli said the parties of the ruling alliance are committed to the country’s prosperity.    

            Inaugurating the 11th district convention of CPN (UML) Jhapa on Thursday, Oli argued that the current government is making efforts to fulfill the national aspirations of Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepalis.

            Ruling out the changes of alliance between CPN (UML) and Nepali Congress, Oli said the two parties should have a healthy political competition.

            On the occasion, Chairman Oli shared that his party has focused completely on ‘Mission 84’ by leaving everything for now and added that his party wants to form a single majority government after the general election to be held in 2084 BS.

            During the event, the party felicitated the veteran leaders of the UML and others contributing for the prosperity of Jhapa district. Those being honoured include UML vice-chair Ashta Laxmi Shakya, Amrit Kumar Bohora, Naresh Kharel, Kalidas Shrestha, Shova Kunwar, Prithvi Mainali and others.

07-       Fortified rice has arrived in Humla

            Simkot, (Humla), March 28:  A total of 2,340 quintals of fortified rice have been brought to Humla. Official Navin Prasad Acharya of the branch office of Food Management and Trade Company Ltd said that rice transported by foot and air is being sold now. He said that 890 quintals of fortified rice that arrived at the warehouse of the food corporation branch were sold in Simkot.

            He informed that 107 quintals of rice were sold from the distribution centre in North Namkha rural municipality of the district and 200 quintals from Srinagar distribution centre.

            Eight types of nutrients are added to the rice. Meanwhile, he said, 14,000 quintals of rice allocated for Humla are also being transported.  Of them 8,500 quintals of rice of the regular quota, which has not been used before, has been brought by air.

08-       Prime Minister and NC President Deuba meet

            Kathmandu, March 28: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and the major opposition party Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba have held discussions today.

            Prime Minister’s press expert Manohari Timilsina informed that in the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence, Baluwatar in the capital, the two leaders discussed the transitional justice, smooth running of the federal parliament and other contemporary issues.

09-       SEE commences peacefully throughout country

            Kathmandu, March 28: This year’s Secondary Education Examination (SEE) conducted by National Examinations Board has commenced at 2,064 examination centres across the country from today. It will conclude on April 9.

            The examination runs from 8 am to 11 am. The examinees appeared in the English paper today.

            NEB Chairperson Prof Dr Mahashram Sharma has called upon all stakeholders to make SEE systematic, decent, fair, fear-free and peaceful.

            Altogether 504,414 students from 10,806 schools are appearing in the exam. Among the aspiring examinees, 250,772 are female and 253,627 were male and 15 were sexual and gender minorities, informed Nandalal Poudel, SEE Exam Controller at the Board.

            Among the examinees, 15,749 from 506 schools are taking the SEE towards the technical stream.

            Altogether 2,064 exam centres have been set up for the exam with the highest in Kathmandu at 127 and lowest in Manang and Mustang district at one each, said Exam Controller Poudel.

            Meanwhile, one exam centre has been set up at the Everest School in Japan where 23 students, including 15 girls and eight boys, are sitting for the exam, he added. A total of 77,485 human resources will be mobilized directly to conduct the exam smoothly, the Board said.

10-       Adverse weather affects air travel

            Kathmandu, March 28: Air flights in the country have been generally affected due to the adverse weather.

            According to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), both domestic and international flights have been affected due to poor visibility. Airport spokesperson Subas Jha said that some international flights were affected due to low visibility.

            Jha said an Air China plane has been ‘diverted’ while other planes have been put on hold. Even now, the aircraft of Sichuan Airlines is on hold.

            “The visibility of the airport is poor due to adverse weather. An hour ago the visibility was only 1,600 meters, but now it is 2,500 meters. “International flights on hold have started to land gradually,” said spokesman Jha. There are no domestic flights at Pokhara International Airport as well. However, regular flights are operating at airports in the Terai region.

            At Tribhuvan International Airport, 30 airlines, including three Nepalese, are operating international flights.

            Similarly, 20 air service providers including 12 helicopter companies are providing flight services in domestic level.

11-       Cloudy weather with rainfall to continue across country for some days

            Kathmandu, March 28: Continuous rainfall is taking place in Bagmati, Koshi and Gandaki provinces due to the influence of the Westerly wind. Cloudy weather along with rainfall will continue throughout the country for some days, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

            Meteorologist at the Department Govinda Kumar Jha said the Westerly wind, local wind and the moisture-laden wind coming from the Arabian Sea currently influencing the weather in Nepal.

            “The weather is partly to generally cloudy throughout the country, including in the Kathmandu Valley at present. This trend will continue for some days,” he added.

12-       Senior citizens becoming isolated in: Minister Sharma

            Ghorahi (Dang), March 28: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has said that with the development of the changing society, senior citizens are becoming isolated in recent times.

            Addressing an event held Thursday at the Senior Citizens Concern Centre in Ghorahi sub-metropolis-16 Teraunte, in Dang district, Minister Sharma said that the work being done by the centre for senior citizens is very effective and praiseworthy. She emphasized that it should be carried out more systematically in the days to come.

            On the occasion, Minister Sharma opined that the services given by the Centre to the senior citizens who are isolated from their families due to busy schedule have made their lives very easy.

            In some cases, due to busy work and responsibilities, even one family has to live separately and because of it senior citizens are lonely, she added.

            Although it is the responsibility of the family to nurture and care for the elderly, she mentioned that in recent times there have been cases of discrimination and abandonment in ashrams (elderly home).

            Minister said that in the recent generation, there has been an increase in problems in fulfilling the duties of parents, stressing that all agencies of the state should pay attention to moral education and awareness of responsibility towards parents in the young generation.

            Minister Sharma said that she will try her best to build the park at the Senior Citizens Concern Centre and other necessary initiatives for the construction of physical structures.

13-       Woman dies, hubby hurt in wild elephant attack

            Jhapa, March 28: A woman was killed due to attack by wild elephant at Shivasatakshi Municipality in Jhapa district. He husband was injured in the same incident took place on Wednesday in the forest area of Ratuwamai Reforestation Project at Shivasatakshi-11.

            Sixty-year-old Pabitra Bhetuwal died on the spot and her husband 62-year-old Dilip Bhetuwal was injured in the incident, said Police Inspector at the District Police Office Dhundiraj Giri. They had gone to the forest to collect grass for cattle and firewood.

            A team of police from the Jhiljhile Area Police Office located seven kilometres south of the incident site rescued Dilip and took him to the Purnatung Birta City Hospital for treatment. He suffers injuries in mouth, limbs and various parts of the body.

            Five people have been killed due to attacks by wild elephants in Jhapa district in the last  over eight months.

            The wild elephant has damaged the houses of Nanda Prasad Poudel and Durga Basnet at Bahraghare of Arjundhara Municipality-9 on Wednesday. It has also consumed paddy stored in the cowshed.

            On Tuesday, wild elephant had destroyed and eaten up the maize crop at the field of Aaitraj Limboo at Kamal Rural Municipality-5.

            Similarly, wild elephants pulled down the houses of Tanka Prasad Poudel, Chhunu Danuwar and Dhanasingh Tamang at Fokandanda, Mechinagar Municipality-3 in the district on Sunday, police said.

14-       T-20 Cricket Series: match between Nepal ‘A’ and Ireland ‘A’ cancelled 

            Kathmandu, March 28: The cricket match between Nepal ‘A’ and Ireland ‘A’ has been canceled due to rain today.

            The first encounter under the T-20 Series scheduled to take place at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground at Kirtipur has been canceled, according to Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). The matches under the Series were to start from today.

            Nepal ‘A’ and Ireland ‘A’ will be playing three T-20 matches and three one-day games.

            Nepal’s senior team played two T-20 matches with Ireland ‘A’ before this. Nepal had won by 2-0 in that Series. Nepal beat Ireland ‘A’ by six wickets in the first match and by 71 runs in the second one.

15-       Local governments urged to bring gender-friendly budget for quality education

            Kathmandu, March 28: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Bhagawati Chaudhary, has called on the local governments to bring inclusive and gender-sensitive budget for improving quality of education.

            Inaugurating a conference on inclusive and quality education organized by National Campaign for Education (NCE) here today, Minister Chaudhary said the federal government will make the necessary facilitation for the same.

            Stressing on the need of building child, gender and disabled-friendly physical structures at the community schools, she called for providing healthy food and pure drinking water to the children at home and school. The Minister also urged parents and teachers to pay attention to the sanitary health of girls during the menstruation.

            She pointed out the need of inter-ministry coordination and facilitation in the women, children and education sectors. Minister Chaudhary also gave the assurance of government’s initiatives towards incorporating the suggestions of all stakeholders in the School Education Bill, 2080 which is under the consideration of the parliament.

            National Women Commission Chairperson Kamala Parajuli said the government and the sides concerned should pay attention to formulating inclusive and gender-friendly budget, policies and structures for enhancing the quality of education.

            Deputy Mayor of Goarneshwar Municipality, Sannani Lama and Kirtipur Municipality Deputy Mayor, Shuva Laxmi Shakya shared that the local governments have been working in the interest of the children from the marginalized communities and the disabled children without access to education by bringing inclusive and gender-friendly budget remaining within the limited means and resources at their disposal.

            NCE Nepal Chairman Rajendra Pahadi maintained that the civil society organizations working in the education sector have been consistently advocating for quality, free and compulsory education. He urged the State bodies concerned to also listen to the voices of the civil society.

            Local level representatives, government employees, educationalists, teachers, guardians and representatives of organisations working in the communities are attending the conference.

16-       Two ministers allocated portfolio in Sudurpaschim Province

            Sudurpaschim, March 28: Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, Kamal Bahadur Shah, has assigned the responsibility to two ministers participating in the provincial government from the Nagarik Unmukti Party.

            According to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Chief Minister Shah has appointed Laxman Kishor Chaudhary as the Minister for Social Development and Khushiram Dagaura Tharu as the Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forests and Environment.

            Earlier, both of them were not given the portfolio of any ministry. Chief Minister Shah has appointed them as the Ministers when the time to take the vote of confidence from the Province Assembly.

            The spokesperson of the party, Damodar Pandit, informed that the meeting of the founding members of the Party held in Tikapur on Wednesday decided to keep the role played by the party in relation to the federal government and the state government as it is.

            Earlier, the Party had given a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at the federal parliament.

            In Sudurpaschim province, the decision to support the current government led by the Nepali Congress was made by the meeting of the Nagarik Unmukti Party’s parliamentary party. Parliamentary Party Leader and Minister for Economic Affairs Ghanashyam Chaudhary said that they will not back down on the issue of supporting the Shah-led government in the province.

17-       Ambassador Heikka calls on Minister Chaudhary

            Kathmandu, March 28: Ambassador of Finland to Nepal, Riina-Riikka Heikka has paid a courtesy call on Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Bhagwati Chaudhary at her office, Singh Durbar in the capital.

            In the meeting, they discussed the expansion of relations between the two countries, cooperation on women, children, senior citizens and gender and sexual minorities among other issues.

            On this occasion, Minister Chaudhary discussed that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in September 21, 1974 the relationship between the two countries has been harmonious, stating that Nepal attaches great importance to the relations based on friendship, amity and cooperation with Finland.

            Minister Chaudhary expressed the belief that Finland’s support will be fruitful for Nepal in the efforts to uplift the socio-economic status, especially the rural communities of Nepal, and thanked the Finnish government and people for extending their helping hands to Nepal during the difficult time of Covid-19.

            Mentioning that Nepal is aiming to upgrade from underdeveloped country status in 2026 and become a middle-income country by 2030, Minister Chaudhary said that Nepal is striving to achieve the goals of sustainable development.

            “I would like to thank Finland for advocating climate change together with Nepal in various multilateral forums,” she said. In the meeting, Ambassador Heikka said that to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Nepal and Finland, they will cooperate for bilateral development, according to the Secretariat of Minister Chaudhary.

18-       Situation of asking for budget but not being able to spend it should end: Prime Minister

            Kathmandu, March 28: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the situation of asking for budgets every financial year but not being able to spend the capital budget should be ended.

            Addressing the 52nd meeting of the National Development Problem Resolution Committee held at Singha Durbar on Thursday, Prime Minister Dahal questioned why the budget allocated under the capital heading is not spent properly in time.

            “In the first six months of the current fiscal year, the government’s overall low capital expenditure is a matter of concern for us. This problem must be solved during the rest of this year,” Prime Minister Dahal said. 

            He instructed all ministers and chief ministers to lead the work of development and construction so that the available budget is fully spent in the context of the process of implementing various measures to increase capital expenditure. PM Dahal mentioned that some ministries and some projects of national pride have advanced relatively well.

            Meanwhile, the head of the executive thanked the Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Multi-Purpose Project, Kaligandaki Corridor (Gaindakot-Ramdi Section) and Lumbini Area Development Trust for achieving more than 80 percent physical progress.

            He also directed those projects as well as all other projects to provide 100 percent results in the remaining period. Mentioning the creation of multifaceted effects and opportunities in the economy through the expenditure of the government, Prime Minister Dahal said that it is necessary to spend the specified expenditures on time to mobilize the resources of the private sector, the cooperative sector, and community and development partners.

            The Prime Minister said, “All the parts of the government need to move forward with a result-oriented thinking rather than a process-oriented one.” 

Govt has challenge of raising hopes among people

            PM Dahal also on the occasion shared that the government’s main challenge is to remove the sense of despondency among the people and raise hopes by protecting the achievements of far-reaching importance achieved from all political struggles and movements.

            He directed the government ministries and organs to pay attention to make the government’s delivery effective so as to raise hopes among the people.

            “A change has to be brought especially in the hopelessness and negative thinking among the youths. The government’s main challenge is to tear apart this despondency and raise hopes by protecting the achievements of far-reaching importance achieved from all political struggles and movements,” he reiterated.

            Stressing on the need of making the monitoring and evaluation more objective, effective and result-oriented, PM Dahal called for completing the national pride and transformative projects and the big projects of first priority within the determined time and cost.

            He directed the officials concerned to immediately implement the feedback received through the joint monitoring of projects carried out under the National Planning Commission’s coordination.

            The PM also informed the meeting that timely amendments have been made to the Standards Related to Project Multi-year Contract Agreement, 2080 for ensuring the source and managing the budget of the projects. Similarly, the Basis of and Standards for Project Classification, 2080 has been implemented and it will make important contribution to project management, he added.

            PM underscored on preparing and implementing the budget so as to remove the duplication and the provincial imbalance seen in the infrastructure development. Stating that the NPC has taken the works related to the 16th plan formulation in the final stages of completion, he emphasized on the need of pursuing the goal of ‘good governance, social justice and prosperity’ by addressing the basic issues and challenges encountered in the development endeavours.

            The head of government asserted that the Periodic Plan should incorporate the policy priorities and common resolve of the government announced last week in the changed context.

            Present in the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population Upendra Yadav, the government ministers, the province chief ministers, NPC Vice Chairman Dr Min Bahadur Shrestha, Government Chief Secretary Dr Baikuntha Aryal and secretaries of various ministries, among other government officials.

19-       RSP submits 26-point suggestion to Health Minister

            Kathmandu, March 28 : The Health Department of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has submitted a 26-point suggestion letter to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population, Upendra Yadav, at the Ministry in Kathmandu today.

            The suggestions are for the improvement of the health sector. A team led by Dr Toshima Karki, member of the House of Representatives and head of the health department of the Party submitted the charter of suggestions to the Minister.

            The recommendations include, among others, the need to make emergency healthcare services the full responsibility of the State, to make the health insurance programme a high priority and make it strong, easy and transparent, to review treatment and healthcare fees, to ensure the management of medical and health human resources, and to create necessary posts as soon as possible.

            Similarly, the RSP has suggested that in order to understand the condition of the equipment purchased in hospitals and health institutions, the monitoring and regulation of healthcare providers should be intensified in a coordinated framework by making the regulatory bodies of the health sector more active, and in the long term, all regulatory bodies should form a ‘Healthcare Regulatory Council’.

            Presenting the suggestions, Dr Karki said, “We have a team of experts working in the health sector. We have done our homework on health issues. We are ready to cooperate and collaborate.”

            While receiving the recommendation letter, Health Minister Yadav mentioned that there is a need for many reforms in the health sector. “The main thing is that common citizens should get quality and affordable health services in hospitals. There is a need for equipment and manpower,” Health Minister Yadav said and expressed his commitment to follow the suggestions given, and ask for help when needed.

20-       National Assembly Vice-chair Aryal resigns

            Kathmandu, March 28: Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly, Urmila Aryal has resigned from the post. Vice-chair Aryal submitted her resignation letter to NA Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal on Thursday.

            Aryal was elected as the Vice-chair of the National Assembly on 6 February 2023.

            In her resignation letter, she mentioned that she performed her duties honestly while in office and thanked everyone who helped her during the tenure. Aryal was elected as a member of the National Assembly on behalf of the CPN (Maoist Centre).

01-       Nepal-India Sanskrit Conference

            Kathmandu, March 28: Some 80 Sanskrit scholars from Nepal and India have gathered in Kathmandu for the International Nepal-India Sanskrit Conference.

            In the conference organized by Policy Research Institute Nepal and Central Sanskrit University Delhi and India Foundation, in-depth discussions are scheduled to be held on various topics related to the state of Sanskrit language and literature in Nepal and India.

            Research work will be presented in the presence of the vice chancellors of Nepal Sanskrit University, Nepal and Central Sanskrit University, India and of other universities and distinguished professors, said Dr Premraj Neupane, coordinator of the organizing committee.

            Consultation will also be held how Sanskrit should adopt the new school of thought, with presentations based on the experience and knowledge of various leading Sanskrit scholars in Nepal and India.

            Inaugurating the conference on Wednesday evening, Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Shakti Bahadur Basnet said Sanskrit language will help keep the relationship between Nepal and India alive. “Our identity, history, knowledge and science are in the Sanskrit language and we should work for its protection and advancement”, he said.

            According to information shared at the event, Sanskrit language is being studied in 254 universities in 40 countries around the world.

02-       Itahari Gold Cup: Tribhuvan Army into the final

            Itahari, March 28: Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) has entered the final of the 14th Itahari Gold Cup. In the semi-final match held here last night under lights, TAC defeated defending champion Sagarmatha Club in a penalty shootout by 2-1.

            The match was decided through a penalty shootout after both sides failed to score within the regulation time. Fatteman Ghale and Ripu Bhulan scored for the TAC while Diwakar Chaudhary was the only one to score for Sagarmatha Club.

            TAC goalkeeper Bikesh Kuthu was declared the man of the match, to win a cash prize of 10,000 rupees.

            The second semi-final match tonight will be held between last year’s runner-up Church Boys United and the host Rastriya Jagriti Club.

            The final match of the tournament will be played under lights on coming Saturday.

03-       Kumbha Mela in Barahkshetra from April 9

            Dharan, March 28: The Mahakumbha Mela in Chataradham is to be held this year from coming April 9 to May 10 in Barahkshetra Municipality-1 of Sunsari.

            Some three million pilgrims from home and abroad are expected to visit the grand fair, said Joint-Chair of the Organizing Committee and Mayor of Barahkshetra Municipality, Ramesh Karki.

            Meanwhile, 80 percent of the work related to the preparation of the fair has been completed, said vice president of the main organizing committee, ward president of Barahkshetra-2, Hom Prasad Gautam.

            In Barahkshetra, Kumbha Mela has been organized since 2059 BS, with Ardha Kumbha mela held in every six years and Purna Maha Kumbha mela in every 12 years.

            Kumbha Mela is being organized since a long time in four places of India Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh), Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh), Nashik (Maharashtra) and Haridwar (Uttarakhand).

             It is said that the Kumbha Mela is being organized in this area as the Barahkshetra located on the banks of the Saptakoshi River and the Pindeshwar Dham of Dharan are linked with the Kumbha Mela, a gathering of Hindu devotees held four times over the course of twelve years, as per Hindu Mythology.

04-       Rong Rural Municipality selecting ‘Guru Kissan’

            Ilam, March 28: Farmer Man Bahadur Rai of Badare in Rong rural municipality-1 produced 15 tons of cardamom in 12 ropani of land this year. And as a result, he was selected as one of the ‘Guru Kissan’ or leading farmers of the rural municipality.

            The rural municipality has introduced a new concept to promote productivity by recognizing farmers who produce more in less area of land as ‘Guru Kissan’.

            “There are 4,500 farmers in our rural municipality and we have planned to recognize about 300 ‘guru kissan”, said Chair of the Rural Municipality Manikumar Syangbo Subas. The Guru Kissan procedures have been approved by the municipal executive to bring uniformity in production, quality and regular production of cash crops in the rural municipality.

            Syangbo said that this concept was put forward to enlist the hardworking and leading farmers who produce more with less land. They will also receive an insignia along with an identity card. “Guru Kissan are hardworking farmers, who are expected to be role model for others”, he said.

            Some of the farmers here have not been able to produce 10 tons of cardamom by farming even in an area of 30 ropani. “If fertilizers and irrigation are applied on the right time it is possible to get a lot of production even in a small area”, said farmer Rai.

05-       Leader Rayamajhi under supervision of doctors

            Kathmandu, March 28: Former Secretary of CPN (UML) Top Bahadur Rayamazhi is under the supervision of doctors at Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center. Leader Rayamajhi was admitted to the center on Wednesday due to heart-related complications.

            Dr Chandramani Poudel, a senior cardiologist involved in his treatment, said Rayamajhi’s health condition is stable and that he has been admitted to the center to monitor his heart rate. An ECG of his heart was carried out and is under observation of the doctors, he said.

06-       National Level Volleyball from April 12

            Galkot (Baglung), March 28: The Kalika Bhagwati Guthi Management Committee is to host the Kalika Cup volleyball tournament starting from coming April 12.

            The volleyball tournament is going to be held to coincide with the Chaite Dashain Mela, which is being organized with the slogan ‘Destination Baglung Kalika: Promotion of Art and Culture – Promotion of local production, trade and tourism’.

            National volleyball players are expected to take part in the tournament, that will see the winners walk away with Rs.300,000. The second team will be awarded Rs 150,000 and the third team will win Rs 100,000. The best player will be awarded Rs.5,000 in cash.

            In addition, folk song competition and secondary school level group dance competition will be organized in the fair that will run until April 18, according to the organisers.
