Chitwan, May 27: Four vehicles collided with one another, killing a person and injuring 22 others along the Narayangadh-Muglin road last night.
The incident occurred at 17-Kilo of Bharatpur Metropolis-29, the police said, adding that a 17-year-old boy died in the incident.
Spokesperson at District Police Office, Chitwan, Bhesraj Rijal, said three buses and a truck had collided with one another. The identity of the dead one is not ascertained yet.
The roadway remained obstructed for some hours after the incident. However, the two-way traffic began this morning, Rijal added.
Eighteen injured passengers are undergoing treatment at a basic hospital, Kurintar, while four others at Chitwan Medical College.

255 medal winning players to get monthly stipend
Kathmandu, May 27: The government is providing monthly stipends to total 255 players who have got medals in the international sports competitions in the Olympics, and the Asian and south Asian games.
The economic survey Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun presented in the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday mentioned this scheme.
A detailed project report was prepared for the establishment of a high altitude training centre at Timal of Manang district for capacity building of players.
The economic survey further stated that stadiums were built in Dhangadhi, Surkhet, Nepalgunj and Itahari as per government plan of ‘one-province one stadium scheme’.
Sports related infrastructures were being built in 171 local levels as well.

LSP Chair Thakur worries over non-implementation of agreements
Malangwa, May 27: Chairman of the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), Mahanth Thakur, has said the agreements his party made with various governments were not implemented.
He mentioned that during then Madhes movement, many agreements were made with governments, but they were ignored. “Representation based on populations must be ensured,” he underlined.
Addressing a programme organized to welcome new entrants and distribute party memberships at Malangwa on Sunday, LSP Chairman informed that his party was adhering to constitution and laws.
“We participate in election, but it is like waging a war. We’re waging a peaceful protest,” he reminded. The programme was organized by LSP Nepal district working committee of Sarlahi.
Leader Thakur demanded the government that it withdrew the cases filed against his party cadres and leaders.

Access to broadband internet service at all local levels’ centres
Kathmandu, May 27: The government has been able to reach broadband internet service to the centres of all local levels across the country.
Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun shared this information while presenting the economic survey, 2080/81 in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday.
The centres of 5,951 wards of the local levels had access to broadband internet.
Similarly, 4,272 health centres, and 5,341 community secondary schools got this facility.
With this expansion, it has helped in ensuring uniformity in website format of all local levels. A total of 63 bodies associated with 263 local levels made the website live.
A total of 838 virtual machines were in operation for the use of IT system in 340 government agencies having cloud service.
Till the end of Falgun 2080BS, registration of daily paper stood at 765, while biweekly 39, and weekly 298.
So far, total 7,997 newspapers were registered and among them, Nepali language newspaper dominate the media landscape with 5,376, while Rai language newspaper are only two.
Moreover, the numbers of FM and Television on a regular operation are 720 and 107 respectively, the Minister Pun shared.

As villagers go for yarsa picking, looters ransack houses in Mugu
Mugu, May 27: A marauding gang of looters plundered Dolphu village of Mugum Karmarong rural municipality-1 in Mugu district, taking advantage of the absence of villagers on Saturday.
The villagers had left their homes for combing highland meadows in search of precious herb, yarshagumba.
The armed looters ransacked houses and made away with cashes, jewelries and other goods, according to Chairman of Karmarong rural municipality, Chhiring Kyapne Lama.
“There were only elderly and children in the village in which the armed gang took advantage of. Of 50 houses, the gang plundered assets from 23 houses,” he informed, adding that even a priest at a shrine was beaten by the gang.
The gang did not spare even the dogs guarding the houses.
Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Topendra KC informed that a police team was deputed from Pulu police post, a five-hour trek from the village, immediately after receiving the information.
Mugum Karmarong-1 Chairman Tunduk Lama had informed police about the looting spree. The assailants had come with guns, scimitars and khukuris. Jewelries, ancient pots, medicinal herbs, and clothes were looted by them, he added.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Birendra Thapa, informed that the incident site had no access to communications, so it was difficult to contact with police persons mobilized there.
Ward no 1, 3 and 4 of Mugum Karmarong rural municipality fall in the Tse Phoksundo National Park. After the local level gave permission to collect yarshagumba for this season, the locals had left villages since May 23.

Sputtering economy causes closure of 207 industries in Rupandehi last year
Bhairahawa, May 27: At a time when the advocacy has been continued for quite a while, seeking an atmosphere conducive for the industrial development to contribute to national economy, Rupandehi district recorded a grim status last year.
In a year (2080/81BS) alone, a total of 207 industries were closed down in the district.
Chief of Cottage and Small Industries Office in Rupahendi, Netra Prasad Bhusal, said 207 industries were shut down till the end of Baisakh in the current fiscal year. In the same time last year, this number was 217, he added.
Office chief Bhusal reasoned sputtering economy behind the closure of industries in the district. The industrial outputs were on decline. “Not only the closure of industries, but also the registration of new industries was in decline,” he said, adding that a total of 1,130 industries were registered in the fiscal year, 2079/80, while the registration dropped to 727 this year.
The commerce sector also bears unpromising reality. In the last fiscal year, total 1,304 business firms were registered, which downed to 1,175 this year. The number of business firm closing business last year was 19, which increased to 26 now, according to Bhusal.
The economic downturn took a toll especially on production industries, said Thakur Kumar Shrestha, Chair of FNCCI in Rupandehi. “Rupandehi is known as an industrial hub. Here are large industries as well. But, some industries are closed and those in operation are at 30 to 40 percent production capacity.”
Moreover, 10 cement factories are closed in the district. The business and construction industries are also facing hard times. The government must pay heed to the suggestions the businesspersons furnished.
Shrestha underlined the need for addressing private sectors’ agenda in the forthcoming budget.
