KATHMANDU, Dec 09: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reiterated that anyone involved in corruption must be brought to justice.
Stating that cases have also been filed against high-ranking political and administrative officials, PM Oli said that this would prove zero tolerance against corruption.
In a congratulatory message on the occasion of the International Day Against Corruption, Prime Minister Oli said, “Anyone involved in corruption must be brought to justice. Cases have also been filed against high-ranking political and administrative officials this year. It demonstrates our zero-tolerance for corruption.”
“Corruption, big or small in size or big or small in position or anyone else, is a crime and cannot be forgiven,” PM Oli wrote. “The government is clear on this.”
Stating that the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has handled 792 cases of corruption in the last two fiscal years and is still investigating about 8,000 complaints, Oli said.
Stating that preventing corruption is the priority of the government, PM Oli said that it needs the support and cooperation of all including government, private, non-government, community and media sectors.
“It is equally important to change our social values, beliefs, culture and behavior,” Oli added. “Social good governance creates pressure for good business and political governance.”
Stating that it is not possible to conclude that corruption has decreased or increased on the basis of a single indicator, PM Oli said that it is necessary to conduct a multifaceted and meticulous study.
