KATHMANDU: Senior poet and writer Dr. Banira Giri has passed away. She died of a heart attack at the age of 75 at 10 pm on Sunday.
She was also found infected with Covid-19 20 days ago. But her family said she died of a heart attack. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Naya Baneshwor immediately after the heart attack. Moments later, doctors pronounced her dead.
Dr. Giri survived by her husband, a son and a daughter. She was known as the first woman to do a doctorate. Giri had obtained her PhD from Tribhuvan University for her research on poet Gopal Prasad Rimal. Her body has been taken away from the Civil Hospital by the Nepal Army for burial.
