PM Deuba pledges support for promotion of Gurung culture

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the government would provide best possible support for the promotion of Gurung community’s language, cultures and civilisation.

At a programme here today on the occasion Tamu Lhoshar 2078, PM Deuba said that this festival would help contribute to strengthen mutual cooperation, goodwill and tolerance among the Gurung community and different religious and cultural groups.

The PM also expressed the confidence that this festival would help glorify the civilisation and culture of Gurung community and shed light on country’s socio-economic development played by this community.

The Gurung community is observing this festival with much fanfare by welcoming To Lho (Tiger Class) by bidding farewell to Cow Class.

On the occasion, Deuba said that co-existence, mutual cooperation and tolerance and common traditional cultures and civilisation are Nepali’s identity and pride that have further strengthened our national unity and indivisibility.

Also speaking at the programme, chairperson of Tamu Hyul Chhonj Dhin Gurung National Council Resham Gurung extended gratitude to the government for announcing a national holiday on this festival for the cause of promoting social goodwill.
Chairperson of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities Jagat Baral and others expressed their opinions on the occasion.

During the programme, cultural shows were demonstrated and different personalities were honoured for their contribution to the Gurung community.
