KATHMANDU: Yadulal Kharel has been appointed as the head of the National Investigation Department (NID). A cabinet meeting held on Wednesday promoted Kharel to the post of Chief of the country’s internal intelligence agency.
Along with Kharel, another Additional Chief Investigating Director Yadav Prasad Regmi was also in the race to become the intelligence chief. But the government has appointed Kharel, now head of the administration department, as chief investigative director, a minister said.
The term of the current intelligence chief Ganesh Adhikari is coming to an end in two days. Kharel will then take over as head of intelligence. Kharel is also a batchmate of the current intelligence chief. He will retire after 7 months due to age limit of 58 years.
