Kathmandu, April 28: The Third Investment Summit is beginning today. It is being organized to bring in foreign direct investment and launch development projects for the country’s economic progress.
The government is dangling 151 projects. The event to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will be attended by over 1600 investors from 55 plus countries.
Nepal Investment Board has informed that there will be 23 exhibition stalls along with detailed information on the projects in the conference. Similarly, letters of intent would be called for 19 projects.
The two-day international event features 11 parallel sessions on Monday. The first day witnesses inauguration session and two major sessions.
The investors will be provided opportunities to interact with PM Dahal and Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun in course of the summit.
Private sector, partner of economic development, is the co-organizer of the event.
Several noted international figures including Indian Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal; State Minister for UK Asia Pacific Affairs, Anne-Marie Trevelyan; Minister of State for Development and Africa, Andrew Mitchell; UNCTAD Secretary General Rebeca Grynspan; Chairman of China International Development Cooperation Agency, Luo Zhaohui are addressing the summit.
Similarly, Vice President Chair of ADB, Yingming Yang; Acting Vice Chair of Asian Infrastructures Investment Bank, Rajit Mishra; Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Shreevastav; Executive Director of ITC India, Supratim Datta, and Senior Vice Chair of US Chamber of Commerce, Atul Keshap, also in the list to address it.
The event will also be addressed by former Prime Minister and major opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, Finance Minister and summit convention committee director, Barsha Man Pun, and leaders of Nepali business community.

Tourists suffer after flight disruption
Lukla, April 28: Tourists have been suffering after the flight disruption owing to adverse weather in Solukhumbu district for some days.
Those waiting flights to Kathmandu from Tenjing Hillary Airport were stranded as the airport could not witness planes due to poor visibility. Thick haze has affected visibility.
Tourist guides have said the foreign visitors were at receiving end of adverse weather. A guide Angdanu Sherpa informed that tourists were waiting for the planes for two days, but to no avail.
Proprietor of Paradise Lodge, Dawafuti Sherpa, said the foreign visitors were stranded at Lukla with disruption in air service.
According to airport chief Umesh Panthi, the airport, conducting as many as 54 flights in a day, did not witness any flight on Friday. Only few flights were operated on Saturday.
However, helicopters were making regular flights.
Five-km visibility is required to conduct flights at Tenjing Hillary Airport.
More than 300 flights, including helicopter’s, are conducted here, the airport added.
It is one of the most used airports by the tourists heading to the Sagarmatha region.

03- Sweltering heat in Lumbini Province, people urged for caution
Kathmandu, April 28: In the wake of sweltering heat, especially in Terai belt and Lumbini Province, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, has urged people to stay at home.
Both the minimum and maximum temperatures in most parts of country witnessed gradual rise for some days. Some of the places recorded over 40 degree Celsius temperature.
The Department requested everyone to maintain precaution for some days as the temperature could still rise.
Issuing a special bulletin on heat wave on Saturday, the Department said we need to be aware that even the hilly gorges and valleys were likely to have increased temperature for five days.
The heat wave cause fatigue, extreme thirst, headache, cramp, dizziness, faint, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting and headache. The Department has suggested wearing thin cotton clothes, and donning cap if it is urgent to go outside.
Similarly, high liquid intake is strongly suggested.
People are further urged to consult medical persons in case of severity.

04- Dahal elected Makwanpur chair of CPN (US)
Bagamati, April 28: Bishnu Prasad Dahal has been elected chairperson of CPN (Unified Socialist) in Makwanpur district.
The party’s district meeting held in Hetauda this morning elected a 58-member district committee unopposed under the chairmanship of Bishnu Dahal.
The committee got Kalpana Bishwokarma as vice chair, Dhruba Kumar Bhujel as secretary, and Tanka Prasad Moktan, Kabin Pant and Begam Baral as deputy secretaries.
The party shared that the members to the committee are Sukram KC, Gyanendra Devkota, Ramesh Kumar Rai, BN Sharma, Balram Bal, Raju Adhikari, Gajendra Kangdangwa, Manoj Waiba, Dhan Moktan, Shukra Devi Bal, Saraswati Timsina, Rajani Tiwari, Shanti Priya Banda, among others.
Earlier, the district convention of the party was inaugurated by party Chairperson and former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.

05- Japanese Foreign Minister to visit Nepal next week
Kathmandu, April 28: Foreign Minister of Japan, Yoko Kamikawa, will be visiting Nepal next week.
The Japanese Foreign Ministry shared this information on Saturday.
Minister Kamikawa told a press conference that she would ‘engage in diplomacy that serves as a bridge between Global South and like-minded countries including the Group of Seven nations’, according to the Ministry.
She is visiting Madagascar, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, France, Sri Lanka and Nepal from April 26 to May 6.

06- 3rd Investment Summit: Govt seeking letters of intent for 20 projects
Kathmandu, April 28: The government has planned to call for the letters of intent for 20 projects- mostly the hydropower projects- in the 3rd Investment Summit. The two-day summit is commencing in the federal capital today.
The letters of intent is being sought from both national and foreign investors for the projects identified and feasibility studies completed.
Dhulikhel Medicity Project is one for which the letter of intent is sought. The proposal for the project is prepared- with the location of super special hospital at Dhulikhel, Kavrepalanchowk at the cost of Rs 11 billion. Government has planned to construct the super special hospital in a bid to develop medical tourism hub.
Similarly, Sudurpaschim Public Transport Project is another for which the letter of intent is called for. It aims at improve public transportation in Kailali, Kanchanpur and Doti districts of Sudurpaschim Province. For the project, 173 buses including 104 electric vehicles are proposed under it, while the estimated cost of Rs 31.13 billion, and the term is three year.
Naumure Multi-Purpose Project with estimated cost of Rs 92 billion is also in the list. As per proposal, total 281.04 MW electricity would be generated from the project.
Khimti Those Shivalaya Reservoir-based Hydropower is proposed at border of Dolakha and Ramechhap districts. It is the largest hydropower project with estimated cost of Rs 289 billion.
Humla Karnali Hydropower Project of 61.2 MW project will be located at Namkha rural municipality of Humla district. The project cost is around Rs 14.70 billion.
Upper Chameliya Hydropower Project with the capacity of 53.85 MW is estimated to require investment of Rs 11.90 billion.
Panchkhal Special Economic Zone in Panchkhal municipality has aimed at creating jobs by promoting economic activities. Rs 1.57 is estimated cost of the undertaking.
Kabadikhola Hydropower Project to be located at mountainous place in the border of Bajura and Humla districts is proposed to be operated in a BOOT model. It requires Rs 6.41 billion investment. The feasibility study for the project was done in 2020.
Another hydropower to be located in Tanahu, Palpa, Nawalpur and Syangja districts is Kaligandaki-II is the reservoir-based hydropower. Total Rs 174 billion is the estimated investment for the project.
A 377MW hydropower project named Bharbung Reservoir-based Hydropower Project is listed for the undertaking the government is showcasing for letter of intent in the two-day event.
There are other hydropower projects like Tom Dogar Budhugandaki Hydropower Project with location at Chumnubri of Gorkha, and Super Budhigandaki Hydropower Project with location in Gorkha.
In addition to the hydropower projects, other projects the government is showcasing to elicit concept paper are- Pokhara International Convention Centre and Exhibition Centre, Daiji Industrial Zone, Babarmahal Administrative Plaza, Mahadev Stream Reservoir focused on climate actions, Karnali-Chisapani Wind Energy Project, Chandragiri-Chitwan Expressway, Janaki Heritage Hotel and Cultural Village, Dhaubadi Iron Mine and Excavation Project.
