Gusty winds likely to occur in Lumbini, Madhes and Koshi provinces

Kathmandu, May 1: The weather will be partly cloudy in the hilly regions of Koshi, Gandaki and Karnali provinces and generally fair in remaining parts of the ountry.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the weather will remain partly cloudy in the hilly region and mainly fair in rest of the part of the country this afternoon. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places of the hilly regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.

There are chances of light snowfall at one or two places of the high hilly and mountainous regions of the country, the Division  said.

There are chances of thunderstorm at some places of Koshi, Madhes and Lumbini provinces and at a few places in rest of the provinces.

Similarly, the weather will be partly cloudy in the hilly regions of Koshi, Gandaki and Karnali provinces tonight. Light snowfall is likely to occur at one or two places of the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

There is a possibility of gusty winds at one or two places of Koshi, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

In the next 24 hours, light rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places of the hilly regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. There are chances of light snowfall at one or two places of the high hilly and mountainous regions of the country.

There is a possibility of thunderstorm at some places of Koshi, Madhes and Lumbini provinces and at some places in the remaining provinces.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has cautioned the general public to adopt alertness in view of partial impact of weather on agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road and air transport including daily life in these areas.

02-       Not to go to foreign employment through illegal route-Embassy

Kathmandu, May 1: The Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad has urged all the concerned to only use legal means to go for foreign employment, noting many Nepali have been victimized and stranded in Kyrgyzstan for some time on temptation of attractive jobs.

The embassy said it has received information that some of those victimized have been assured to be sent to other countries using Kyrgyzstan route, sharing that some of the stranded people have been rescued and sent back to Nepal, some are on their way back but the process of reaching there has not stopped. 

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the embassy said, “As per the information received, some Nepali and foreigners are being involved in the fraudulent acts in the face of lucrative jobs”.

Individuals and groups involved in illegal activities of taking Nepali citizens abroad on the wrong temptation and leaving them stranded have to face the prevailing law, the statement further noted.

“The embassy sincerely requests all concerned not to fall prey to the ill-intended act of fraudulent groups and to use only the established and legal route arranged by the Government of Nepal to go for foreign employment”, the statement reads.

03-       International Worker Day or May Day today

Kathmandu, May 1:  The International Labour Day or May Day is being celebrated today with the theme ‘History, Achievements and the Road Ahead’.

Workers all over the world take this day as an opportunity to keep everyone aware of the protection and promotion of labour rights with mutual unity and solidarity.

This day will remind of the movements and achievements made so far for the establishment of the right to decent work and reasonable wages..

The Constitution of Nepal has guaranteed the right to employment of the citizens and the right to fair remuneration and contribution-based social security for every worker.

On the occasion of the May Day, the Joint Trade Union Coordination Committee is organizing a special programme at Bhrikutimandap today in the presence of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

Committee General Secretary Prem Prasad Khanal said that the rally will be organized from the new road before the ceremony.

The day dated back to 1 May 1881, to commemorate the general strike enforced in the United States demanding labour rights.

04-       ‘Nepal will lend full-fledged support to enable UN’

Kathmandu, May 1: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population Upendra Yadav said Nepal will lend full-fledged support to make the United Nations a strong and effective global body.

Deputy Prime Minister Yadav who is in New York to attend the 57th session of the United Nations Commission on Population and Development made the commitment in a meeting with the President of the 78th  United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis today, according to Permanent Mission of Nepal to the UN in New York.

Talking about climate change and the problems facing the least developed countries like Nepal and its impact, the DPM expressed views on the importance of sustainable tourism development, international cooperation and multilateralism.

He pledged Nepal’s full support to the priorities put forward by President Francis for peace, prosperity and sustainable development.

Appreciating the significant improvement in Nepal’s health sector, especially maternal and reproductive health, the President pledged the UN’s support to Nepal in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and mitigating the impacts of climate change.

Also speaking at a programme jointly organised by Nepal along with Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Colombia and the UK in the United Nations, Yadav highlighted Nepal’s progress and challenges in the health sector and said that exchange of trust, goodwill, solidarity and cooperation among the nations was important for the improvement of the health sector.

Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations Lok Bahadur Thapa and high-ranking government officials of Nepal were present on the occasion.

05-       MoU signing for resort construction in Rara region encouraging-PM

Kathmandu, May 1: Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has expressed happiness over the signing of an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Rara Holding and Expert Group Australia for the construction of a Resort near the  Rara Lake in Mugu on the sidelines of the Third Investment Summit. He pledged the government’s support for the promotion of tourism. 

The Prime Minister said this in a talk to the representatives of Rara Holding this morning. During the meeting, the Prime Minister said, “The MoU for the construction of a resort at Murmatop in Rara is significant. Tourism is one of the most important areas for prosperity in Nepal. For this, the State should emphasize on tourism infrastructure. I am happy that you private sector has taken the initiative for this. It will contribute significantly to the promotion of domestic and external tourism in Rara”.

The Prime Minister said the State would extend support in infrastructure development for attracting tourists to Rara. “The State will also play a role for infrastructure development for the construction of resorts,” he said. The government will provide support mainly in the construction of roads, electricity transmission, drinking water and other sectors. This investment will not only help in attracting tourists to Nepal but also increase internal revenue, the PM added. 

On the occasion, Abhishek Bikram Shah of Rara Holding Pvt Ltd and Sanjeev Sharma of Expert Group Australia expressed their commitment to complete the work within the stipulated time as per the agreement reached at the investment conference.

On the sidelines of the third investment summit held on Monday, Rara Holding and Expert Group Australia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to construct a well-equipped resort near Rara Lake at a cost of Rs 1.1 billion.

06-       Lalitpur forest fire: Another injured also die

Patan (Lalitpur), May 1: Another person also breathed his last in an attempt to douse a fire broke out at Tapeshwor Community Forest in Godavari Municipality-4, Badikhel.

He died while undergoing treatment at the Kirtipur-based Burn Hospital. Shankar and Ramesh Pahari were seriously injured when they went to contain the forest fire.

Shankar died on Tuesday while Ramesh died this morning, Superintendent of Police at the District Police Range, Lalitpur, Naresh Raj Subedi, told RSS.

The fire broke out in community forests of Godavari municipality-6, Tikabhaira,  Mahadev Khola Satya community forest of ward 5, Tapeshwar temple’s forest of ward 4, Badikhel, Chheda Community forest of ward 9, Jayabhadra community forest of ward 3, Charghare community forest, ward 10, SP Subedi shared.

He further informed that the fire also caught Dhungeni Patle community forest, Taplechap community forest of ward 2, government forest at Kundulle of Bagmati Rural Municipality-5 and Lubhu Patle Community Forest of Mahalaxmi Municipality-3 since last night.
