Kathmandu, May 2: President Ram Chandra Paudel has summoned the joint session of the federal parliament- House of Representatives and the National Assembly for May 10.
A press statement released by the Office of the President on Thursday says that the joint session of the federal parliaments was summoned for 2:00pm on May 10.
The President made the House call in accordance with Article 93 of the Constitution upon the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

18- IGP Kunwar, Head of Indonesian National Police Murti meet
Kathmandu, May 2: Inspector General of the Nepal Police, Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, and Head of the National Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police, Krishna Murti, held a meeting.
During the meeting held at the Police Headquarters today, they discussed the issues regarding mutual cooperation, sharing of information and coordination, said Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General, Bhim Prasad Dhakal.
Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dan Bahadur Karki, made presentation on the issues—Nepal Police’s organisational introduction, history, structure, duties and responsibilities, participation of Nepal Police in UN Peace Keeping Mission and international cooperation and collaboration in presence of six-member team including IGP Murti.
On the occasion, Murti shared about the duties and responsibilities of Indonesian National Police and added that there would be collaboration with Nepal Police in information sharing, cross-border crime, cyber-crime and UN mission.
Similarly, Senior Superintendent of Indonesian National Police, Leo Yandi Gunawan, made presentation about participation of Indonesian National Police in UN mission.
Additional Inspector Generals, Deputy Inspector Generals and other senior police officials were present on the occasion.
The delegation led by IGP Murti has arrived here on Tuesday for five-day Nepal visit.

19- West Indies ‘A’ clinches T20 Series title
Kathmandu, May 2: West Indies ‘A’ has won the title of T20 series before playing one remaining match. West Indies ‘A’ defeated Nepal by 28 runs in today’s fourth match leading 3-1 in the five-match series.
Elected to bat first after winning the toss at Kirtipur-based TU Cricket Ground, West Indies ‘A’ scored 209 runs in 20 overs losing three wickets.
Chasing the target posted by West Indies ‘A’, Nepal gathered 181 runs in 20 overs losing all wickets. Andre Fletcher of West Indies ‘A’, made the highest 84 runs in 54 balls. Similarly, Johnson Charles scored 58 runs and Fabian Allen 33 runs (not out).
Towards bowling, Kushal Bhurtel took two wickets while Pratish GC one wicket for Nepal. Captain Rohit Kumar Paudel gathered the highest 82 runs in 47 balls for Nepal.
Hayden Walsh and Matthew Forde of West Indies ‘A’ took three wickets each while Fabian Allen and Gudakesh Motie two wickets each.
The final match between Nepal and West Indies ‘A’ of the ongoing series will be played on Saturday.

20- PM directs newly-appointed VCs to focus on production of competitive human resources
Kathmandu, May 2: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the Vice Chancellor of the universities have been appointed based on merit.
Prime Minister Dahal said during a meeting with the recently appointed Vice Chancellors of the Purbanchal, the Mid-West and the Far Western universities at Singh Darbar today that he has made the process of appointing vice chancellors transparent and competitive.
The newly appointed Chancellor of the Purbanchal University, Prof Dr Biju Kumar Thapaliya, the newly appointed Chancellor of the Mid-West University, Prof Dr Dhruva Kumar Gautam and the newly appointed Chancellor of the Far Western University, Prof Dr Hemraj Pant met the Prime Minister and Chancellor Dahal today after receiving their appointment letter.
On that occasion, Prime Minister Dahal directed the Vice Chancellors to operate the universities in a competitive and transparent manner.
“Sharing of posts among the parties has been ended and the competition has been started in the appointment of the vice-chancellor of the university,” Prime Minister Dahal said, adding, “The appointment of the vice-chancellors here has also been done accordingly, please fulfill your responsibilities in a fair manner.”
Prime Minister Dahal directed the vice chancellors to focus on producing manpower to compete in the global market by providing quality education from universities.
‘Resunga has high tourism potential’
Meanwhile, addressing to a programme ‘Let Us Go to Resunga’ here today, PM Dahal said Resunga is an area carrying high potentials for spiritual and nature tourism. He said Resunga has historical, spiritual, Puranic, cultural and tourism heritages.
“This is a religious pilgrimage site – a tranquil, scenic, holy place of spiritualism because of the presence of religious shrines and sites here,” he said.
Emphasizing that all three levels of government should be more active in the development of the tourism sector, Prime Minister Dahal said that the tourism sector can be developed and expanded in cooperation with the non-governmental and community sectors.
He assured of necessary support from the federal government for the overall development of Resunga area.

21- ‘New development pattern in exercise’
Jhapa, May 2: Chief Minister of Koshi Province Kedar Karki has said that the province government is trying to exercise a different pattern of development.
At programme in Shivasatakshi Municipality-6 in Jhapa on Thursday, the Chief Minister argued that the Koshi Province Government was focused on development works.
He viewed that mere understanding of development to the physical infrastructural works has created challenges in society adding that we are lagging behind in the development of humanitarian and social values. “The province government is serious about this issue,” according to Karki.
Chief Minister Karki shared about the free health care services to the children, grants in technical subjects to produce skilled human resources, agriculture insurance and other programmes that the province government is working on.
He also promised to end corruption taking place through proper documentation in government activities.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister feted Suraj Rajbansi, Durga Prasad Guragain, Chandraman Poudel and Dev Narayan Bhandari for providing land plots to build the ward building of Shivasatakshi Municipality-6, Jhapa.

22- SSP Bista feted
Kathmandu, May 2: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dilliraj Bista working at Crime Control and Investigation Division of Sudurpaschim Province Police Office has been honored for his excellent performance.
Bista was honored by the Nepal Police for fiscal year 2080/81BS.In the previous fiscal year as well, he was honoured with cash prize by the Karnali Police Office. The Sudurpaschim Province Police Office said SSP Bista fulfilled his responsibilities in a disciplined and dutiful manner and adherence to the departmental orders, and policy guidelines of the organization.
Bista, who joined Nepal Police on in Chaitra 2051 BS, was promoted to Superintendent of Police (SP) in 2072 BS and SSP in 2079 BS.
Even the police inspector Saroj Kumar Thakurathi, police assistant inspector Ramesh Raj Bhatt and police senior constable Dhawal Singh Mahara were honoured for their best performance.

23- SSP Bista feted
Kathmandu), May 2: More than 65 houses have been gutted in an incident of fire that took place at Baraudhoran village located in Bishnu rural municipality-1 of Sarlahi.
Ward president Bikau Thakur said that more than 65 houses of the village were burnt when a gas cylinder exploded after a fire broke out in the house of local Shatrughan Raut this afternoon. The fire which started around 1:00 pm was extinguished after around four hours with the help of local residents, Nepal Police and Armed Police, supported by fire tenders.
Mayor Jawaharlal Yadav said that more than 100 houses were damaged after the fire in Baraudhoran village. He said food stock, clothes and many livestock were burnt, though the details of the damage are yet to be collected.
Chief of Police of Sarlahi Superintendent of Police Hariharnath Yogi shared that the fire has been brought under control and the work of collecting details of the damage is currently underway.

24- Minister Sharma urges to move forward Public Service Broadcasting Bill
Kathmandu, May 2: Minister of Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has urged the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives to pass the bill designed to amend and integrated laws related to Public Service Broadcasting.
In a meeting with the Committee members today, she urged them to pass the Bill that has already been endorsed by the National Assembly.
Minister Sharma said that the bill provides for merging of Nepal Television and Radio Nepal to form a public broadcasting service and added that it should be enriched further as it was drafted based on past circumstances.
Similarly, Communications Secretary Ramakrishna Subedi said based on the committee’s report and the government’s policy Nepal Television and Radio Nepal were to be merged to form a public broadcasting service.
During the meeting, the committee members suggested further amendments to the bill.

25- Govt. recommends President to summon parliament session on May 10
Kathmandu, May 2: The meeting of the Council of Ministers held Thursday decided to recommend the President to summon joint session of the federal parliament for coming May 10.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology and government Spokesperson, Rekha Sharma, shared that the Cabinet meeting decided to recommend President Ram Chandra Paudel to call the budget session of the parliament from May 10.
Meanwhile, former judge at High Court, Shreeman Kumar Gautam, has been appointed chairperson of the management committee on sick cooperatives and association.Similarly, the government has decided to form a Nepali delegation to hold bilateral talks during the visit of Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yokoko on Sunday.
The next meeting of the Council of Ministers will endorse the schedule for bilateral talks.

26- Auditor General of India pays courtesy call on Prime Minister Dahal
Kathmandu, May 2: Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Girish Chandra Murmu, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today.
During the meeting held at Singh Durbar, various issues of Nepal-India audit, such as capacity building and experience exchange were discussed, said PM’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Dr Rupak Sapkota.
Prime Minister Dahal expressed his belief that the recent cooperation and experience exchange agreement between the offices of the Auditor General of Nepal and India will help the public audit sector of both countries.
Auditor General of India, Murmu, mentioned that he had received information about the audit system of Nepal and expressed his belief that in the future, the cooperation will continue so that the auditors of the two countries can learn from each other’s experience and skills as well.
Auditor General of Nepal Toyam Raya, Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Dr Sapkota and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present in the meeting.

27- UN Assistant Secretary-General Kanni calls on PM
Kathmandu, May 2: UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Kanni Wignaraja, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at Singhadurbar on Thursday.
According to PM’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Dr Rupak Sapkota, diverse issues of Nepal-UNDP cooperation were discussed at the meeting.
On the occasion, the PM expressed his confidence that Nepal will continuously receive assistance from UNDP in the mitigation of climate change impacts and praised the UN’s support to Nepal’s socioeconomic development.
Likewise, the UN Assistant Secretary-General Kanni congratulated Nepal for successfully completing the Nepal Investment Summit and stressed that Nepal-UNDP cooperation should be widened further.

29- Supreme Court summons Timilsina to record statement
Kathmandu, May 2: The Supreme Court is scheduled to record the statement of Rajkumar Timilsina of Lalitpur Godavari, who provided the audio clips to Sidhakura.com. Today’s joint bench of Justices Hari Prasad Phuyal and Mahesh Sharma Paudyal issued an order summoning Timilsina for a statement on May 5, after recording the statement of the publisher of the online news portal, Yubaraj Kandel.
Timisilna has been asked to appear in the court on May 5 at 10 am for a statement along with evidence to avoid action and punishment for contempt of court regarding broadcasting the allegedly fake audio material.
It may be noted that Sidhakura.com published news and aired audio material alleging of a meeting with the Supreme Court justices related to a sting operation by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority. As the statement of Kandel was completed today, editor Naveen Dhungana has been called for a statement at 10 o’clock on Friday.
The Sub-Registrar of the Supreme Court, Govinda Ghimire, had submitted a report on 28 April stating that the news, audio-video material published and broadcasted online has been led to a contempt of the court. Based on this, on 29 April, the bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Tek Prasad Dhungana ordered the online to remove the material within 24 hours and to appear in court for a statement.

30- Finance Minister Pun, UN Assistant Secretary-General Kanni meet
Kathmandu, May 2: Visiting UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Kanni Wignaraja and Finance Minister Barshaman Pun held a meeting at the Ministry of Finance in Singhadurbar on Thursday.
The UN Assistant Secretary-General had arrived in Nepal to attend the meeting of UN resident coordinators from 35 countries of the Asia Pacific region.
During the meeting, the UN Assistant Secretary-General said the UNDP is working in Nepal’s rural areas’ health care, education and poverty alleviation sectors and added that the programme of the Global Green Climate Fund would be implemented in Nepal, while pointing out that Nepal has suffered hugely due to the climate change impacts.
On the occasion, Minister Pun expressed pleasure for the agreement between the UNDP and ICIMOD to work in the areas of climate change.
Likewise, he appreciated the Nepal-UNDP cooperation in the areas of Nepal’s socioeconomic development.

31- ‘IT has huge potential’
Kathmandu, May 2: The officials at Ministry of Communications and Information Technology have argued that information technology (IT) sector has opened up avenue for employment as the IT-friendly society was being created in Nepal.
Joint Secretary at Ministry, Anil Kumar Dutta, viewed IT could prosper agriculture, tourism and health sectors as well. “IT is a borderless issue. One can work for abroad staying at home. The IT experts and youths can make windfall in this field,” he added.
According to him, a study conducted a year back had showed that 64,000 Nepali youths were involved in IT business and entrepreneurship and earning foreign money.
Meanwhile, the National Information and Communications Day was observed in Nepal on Thursday in a bid to promote IT.
Nepal had introduced computer in 2028BS. The restoration of democracy in 2046BS had further created liberal atmosphere which facilitated the launch and expansion of IT business. Computer Association of Nepal was established then. The Day CAN was established is now observed as the National Information and Communications Day.
Joint Secretary Dutta further shared that government was mulling a concept of IT park or tech park and working on policy and law reform so that foreign investment could be ensured along with entry of tech giants like Microsoft and Google in Nepal.
He however said Nepal needs high speed internet, expansion of optical fibres, broadband connectivity and development of software.
Moreover, Director General at Department of Information Technology, Prem Sharan Shrestha, said government was making efforts to bring reforms in IT sector. Paperless integrated office management system is in place for two years, which has eased service delivery, according to him.

32- Pant appointed as Vice Chancellor of Far Western University
Kathmandu, May 2: Professor Dr Hemraj Pant has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of Far Western University.
Prime Minister and Chancellor of the University Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today appointed Pant to the post on the recommendation of the committee formed under Education Minister Sumana Shrestha.
The recommendation committee had submitted the names of three people including Pant to the Prime Minister for the appointment to the post.

33- Ministry says its attention drawn to internet service disruption
Kathmandu, May 2: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has said that its serious attention was drawn to the internet service disruption by some privately-owned internet service providers.
Issuing a press statement this evening, the Ministry’s Assistant Spokesperson Bishal Sapkota has urged all the internet service providers not to disrupt the essential service like internet.
The Ministry has also asked the internet service providers and network service providers to timely pay the rural telecommunications development fees and royalties to be paid to the state as per the law, which was collected from the internet service users prior.
The Ministry has stated that most of the 122 internet service providers and 23 network service providers registered in the Nepal Telecommunications Authority have already cleared the fees to be paid as per the laws, and the Ministry is regularly making recommendations for them for the foreign currency exchange on the recommendation of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority.
