Bhaktapur Hospital to provide free treatment for uterine prolapse

Bhaktapur May 16: Bhaktapur Hospital has arranged for free of cost treatment and surgery for those suffering from uterine prolapse. Hospital Director Dr Sumitra Gautam told RSS that the free treatment and surgery for uterine prolapses has started from today in the hospital.

Dr Gautam said, “Many women are suffering from the problem of uterine prolapsed. Some have concealed the condition due to poverty, while others have not been able to undergo surgery due to financial problems. We request all such patients not to hide the disease and come to the hospital for the treatment.”

She further shared that the free of cost services to those needy are arranged till Mid-June from today.

Efforts underway to end parliament deadlock

Kathmandu, May 16: Today’s meeting of the House of Representatives would be held BEHIND schedule.

The meeting is going to be delayed than the slated time after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ requested Speaker Devraj Ghimire to postpone the meeting as initiatives were underway to forge consensus with the Nepali Congress, the main opposition party, to remove the parliament deadlock, said Ghimire’s Press Coordinator Shekhar Adhikari.

Earlier, today’s HoR meeting was called for 11:00am. The NC has been obstructing the parliament proceedings, demanding formation of a parliamentary committee for impartial investigation on cooperative fraud scam.

The Prime Minister shared that an environment to allow Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Rabi Lamichhane, to speak in today’s meeting is being created.

Speaker Ghimire held discussions with the chief whips and the whips of major political parties as well as with Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs at federal parliament building, New Baneshwor, to end deadlock.

House of Representatives to meet at 4.00pm today

Kathmandu, May 16: The meeting of the House of Representatives is taking place at 4.00 pm today. The meeting scheduled for 11.00 am before this has been postponed as efforts are underway to forge consensus for removing the House deadlock.

The meeting has been deferred than the slated time after Speaker Devraj Ghimire held telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, said Ghimire’s Press Coordinator Shekhar Adhikari.

The Prime Minister had urged the Speaker to postpone the meeting, citing that initiatives were on to forge consensus with the main opposition party, the Nepali Congress.

The Nepali Congress has been obstructing the parliament’s proceedings, demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee to carry out impartial investigation alleging of the involvement of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in the misappropriation of the cooperatives funds.

Former President, UML leaders pay tributes to Bhandari and Ashrit

Kathmandu,  May 16:  Tributes have been paid to the then General Secretary of CPN (UML) Madan Kumar Bhandari and the then Head of the Organization Department of the party Jeevaraj Ashrit, on the occasion of the 31st Memorial Day today by recalling their contribution to the party and the communist movement.

Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari and UML chair KP Sharma Oli including other senior leaders paid tributes to the late Bhandari and Ashrit by offering wreaths to their statues at Madannagar, Balkhu in the capital today.

Senior Vice Chairman Ishwar Pokharel, Vice Chairs Yuvraj Gyawali, Ashtalakshmi Shakya and Bishnu Prasad Paudel, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and Prithvi Subba Gurung, Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai, Advisory Council Chairman Amrit Kumar Bohara, Standing Committee Member Krishna Gopal Shrestha among other leaders of the party expressed their tributes to them.

Leaders Bhandari and Ashrit were killed in a jeep accident at Dasdhunga in Chitwan on May 16, 1993.

The UML has been following the guiding principle of People’s Multiparty Democracy propounded by Leader Bhandari, which the party adopted from its Fifth National Congress.

Minister Bhandari inaugurates coffee farming in Baitadi

Baitadi, May 16: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, has inaugurated commercial coffee farming at Patan in Baitadi district today. He inaugurated commercial coffee sapling plantation programme.

On the occasion, Minister Bhandari said coffee cultivation would help in income generation by developing and promoting coffee farming and achieve concrete achievements in poverty alleviation.

He mentioned, “Baitadi is the district which has not been given appropriate attention by the federal government despite having potential of different agriculture products, forest products, and minerals. Now we are going to change the situation. We have been firmly involving in creating employment and awareness of economic prosperity in the district utilizing such potential at coordination of different tiers of government.”

Stating that demand of coffee is growing in the country, Minister Bhandari mentioned that the internal demand of coffee has not been fulfilled from domestic production.

He further said that the country has not been able to export coffee as per the international demand, sharing that “It is necessary to make Nepali coffee production commercial and result-oriented.”

According to the Ministry, the programme was launched from Baitadi under the programme of launching coffee farming in Nepal from this year with technical and financial support of the European Union.

National Assembly to meet at 4:30pm today

Kathmandu, May 16: The National Assembly will meet today at 4:30 pm. Before this, the meeting was scheduled for 1:15pm today.

It is stated in the notice issued by the Secretary- General of the Federal Parliament, Padma Prasad Pandey, that the meeting could not be held at the slated time due to special reasons.

According to the notice, Chairman of the National Assembly postponed the meeting in accordance with the National Assembly Regulations, 2075 BS, rule 6 sub rule (3).

Role of Democratic Thought Society vital in consolidating democracy: NC President Deuba

Kathmandu, May 16: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba, has said that the Democratic Thought Society has an important role to play in making democracy strong and robust.

Addressing to the Society’s 26th General Assembly and Democracy Fighters Honour Programme here today, the NC President stressed on the need of forging ahead by consolidating democracy. He said the former minister Yog Prasad Upadhyaya had played an important role in making democracy and the NC’s organization stronger.

“Yog Prasad jee(honorific) is not only the senior leader but a big leader of the political movement. I am pleased to honour a person who fought for democracy in course of the 1960 movement, remaining abroad,” he added.

On a different note, the main opposition party leader said that the decision on the Giribandhu Tea Estate was taken during the time when UML was in the government and not when the NC was in the government. “The NC should not be blamed for (misappropriation of the land belonging to the Giri Bandhu Tea Estate),” he said.

Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala said the NC was raising the issue in parliament what the people have been raising on the streets. “The NC that was not cowed by the King’s threats will not be intimidated by the threat of any political party,” he said.

Stating that the country is in a complex situation of late, Dr Koirala said the Nepali Congress should come forward to bail the country out of this situation. He urged Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Rabi Lamichhane, who also handles the police administration, should cooperate in investigations into the cooperatives fraud.
