NC parliamentary party meeting taking place today

Kathmandu, May 20: The parliamentary party meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) is taking place at 9.00 am today. The meeting has been called to discuss on contemporary political affairs.

Before this, the parliamentary party working committee meeting was called for 8.30 am this morning, informed NC chief whip Ramesh Lekhak.

The meeting to be held at the Federal Parliament Building, New Baneshwor, Lhotse Hall will discuss the party’s presentation in the meeting of the House of Representatives scheduled for 11 am today.

The meeting will also discuss on the remarks and allegations Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane made in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday.

The NC has been obstructing the parliament proceedings demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee for a fair probe, alleging that Home Minister Lamichhane was also involved in the embezzlement of cooperative funds.

However, a joint meeting of opposition parties, including the Nepali Congress, agreed to allow Home Minister Lamichhane to speak in the HoR on Sunday.

After the House meeting on Sunday, NC General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa said through a press conference that his party would not allow the parliament session to proceed until a parliamentary committee was formed to conduct an impartial inquiry into the embezzlement of cooperatives’ money.

The NC has demanded that the depositors’ savings in the cooperatives should be returned and whoever is involved in misappropriating the cooperative’s money should be brought under legal purview.

PM Dahal taking vote of confidence today

Kathmandu, May 20: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is set to take vote of confidence from the House of Representatives (HoR) today.

He is taking the vote of confidence from the HoR as per the Article 100 (2) of the Constitution.

There is a constitutional provision that in case of the political party which the Prime Minister represents is divided or a political party of coalition government withdraws its support, the Prime Minister shall table a motion in the HoR for a vote of confidence within 30 days.

PM has to take the vote of confidence with the constituent of the coalition, Janata Samajwadi Party, headed by then Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Upendra Yadav, quitting the government. 

The motion regarding the vote of confidence has to be passed by a majority of all the members in the House of Representatives immediately. Prime Minister Dahal is scheduled to present a proposal in today’s meeting as per Rule 155 of the HoR Regulations 2079 BS.

The speaker will present the proposal for decision in the meeting. The decision of the Assembly on the motion regarding the vote of confidence will be made by the division of vote with the signature of the member.

Speaker’s press advisor Shekhar Adhikari said a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee has been called for 10:00 am today to discuss the issue of prime minister’s vote of confidence.

The fourth session of the federal parliament began on May 10. The government’s annual policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year 2081÷82 BS have already been presented in the joint sitting of the Parliament on May 28.

Book on training management launched

Patan (Lalitpur), May 20: A book ‘Training Management Reflection’, authored by former Executive Director of Local Development Training Academy (LDTA), Nayan Bahadur Khadka, has been released.

Former member of the National Planning Commission (NPC) and ex-Executive Director of LDTA, Dr Rajendra Suwal unveiled the book.

Dr Suwal said the book could be useful to the new generation for enhancing training related knowledge, skills and competencies.

“The book is very useful and important. It would definitely help enrich training management sector”, he noted.

Khadka had served the LDTA from 2032 to 2066 BS in different capacities. The Pairabi Publication has brought out the book.

Mobility up in Rasuagadhi border point for Mansarobar tour

Rasuwa, May 20: The season for travel to Mansarovar, a popular religious destination in China, has begun.

The Rasuwagadhi border point has seen increasing mobility of people travelling to the Kailash Mountain (Parbat) and Mansarovar – considered to be the abode of Lord Mahadev (Shiva) via Trishuli Dhunche and Syafrubesi.

Chief of the Immigration Office, Rasuwagadhi, Murari Niraura said that on an average 40 passengers are travelling to Mansarovar via the border point every day.

Mansarovar is 950 kilometers away from this border point. Chief Niraura said although there are Rasuwagadhi and Hilsa (Humla) border points to go to Mansarovar from Nepal, Rasuwagadhi has witnessed rising number of visitors to religious sites as they are geographically closer to Kathmandu.

According to him, daily around 50 Chinese nationals have been entering Nepal through the border points. —  

Rain with winds begins in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, May 20: Rain and thundershowers have started in Kathmandu. Rain with gusty winds has been reported in most parts of Kathmandu since this morning.

Meteorologist Min Kumar Aryal informed that rainfall is taking place at many places of Kathmandu.

“At present, it is raining in Budhanilkantha, Sundarijal, Dhapdam and Shivpuri of Kathmandu Valley and the highest rainfall is taking place in Sundarijal.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, rainfall is taking place at most places in the northern part of the Valley and the weather will remain cloudy with rain for about two hours.

Likewise, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places of Bagmati, Koshi and Madhes provinces tonight, said Meteorologist Aryal. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, light to moderate rain is likely to occur in Kathmandu today due to the influence of the local wind.

WWF presents Abraham Conservation Award to Himali Samrakshyan Munch

Fugling (Taplejung), May 20: The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has awarded Himali Samrakshyan Munch, an organization working in conservation sector being based in Taplejung.

Amidst a programme organized in Kathmandu, the WWF presented the ‘Abraham Conservation Award, 2024’ to the Munch acknowledging its contributions to bio-diversity conservation sector, informed Munch’s programme coordinator Ramesh Rai.

He said the award has further encouraged them to work in the conservation sector in coming days.

Earlier in 2020, the Munch was awarded by the Birds Conservation Fund.

The Munch has been working mainly for the conservation of rare Red Panda for the past 19 years. Along with conservation, it has also been helping in the promotion of eco-tourism and income generation of the local community.

Secretary Bibas Kedem shared that the Munch has been working in partnership with various organizations for the conservation of the world’s rarest wildlife snow leopard.

Chairperson of the Munch Chandramani Subba said classes have also been started in grade 7 and 8 to raise awareness about snow leopard conservation from the school level.

The Munch has set up a Red Panda Centre at Deurali area in Fungling municipality-9 at the cost of Rs 40 million for biodiversity study.
