Price of gold goes up by Rs 2300 per tola

Kathmandu, May 30: The price of yellow metal has continuously increased in the local market today. The price of gold has increased by Rs 2,300 per tola (11.66 grams) today as compared to Wednesday.

The hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 140,500 per tola which was Rs 138,200 yesterday. Similarly, the price of the worked gold has been determined at Rs 139,800 per tola against Rs 137,550 on Wednesday. It has increased by Rs 2,250 today.

Likewise, the price of silver has gone up by Rs 70 per tola and is determined at Rs 2,000. It was Rs 1,930 on Wednesday, according to the Federation of Gold and Silver Dealers Association.   

Buddha Jayanti marked in Islamabad

Kathmandu, May 30: The Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad, Pakistan, organized a programme to mark the 2568th Buddha Jayanti on Tuesday.

On the occasion, discussions were held on the teachings of Lord Buddha.

The Buddhist monks from Nepal and Pakistan as well as Pakistani nationals were present on the occasion.

Addressing the event, Nepal’s Ambassador to Pakistan Tapas Adhikari the philosophy of Buddhism including non-violence, affection, compassion, empathy and others are useful for human life, the Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad said.      

Stating that Lumbini and Takshashila carry a great importance in Buddhist philosophy, Ambassador Adhikari described the Nepal government’s efforts made for developing Lumbini as the centre of the world peace. He also praised the Government of Pakistan for its efforts in conservation and promotion of Gandhara civilization.  

Former Minister Dr Keshav Man Shakya, Buddhist scholars and different other personalities were present on the occasion.

Schools in Tulasipur Sub-Metropolis to be closed for five days

Dang, May 30: Schools in the Tulasipur Sub-Metropolitan City would remain closed for five days following the excessive heat.

The schools would be closed for five days from May 31 after students started facing health complications due to continuous increasing heat for the past few days.

Coordinator of Social Development Committee, Man Bahadur Rawat, said the schools are asked to close their teaching learning activities from May 31 to June 4.

Chief of Education Division of the Sub-Metropolitan City, Chakra Bahadur Bhandari, mentioned that a meeting of the municipal education committee decided to close all community and institutional schools in Tulasipur for five days after temperature of Dang district was recorded more than 39 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile, schools operated within Rapti Rural Municipality are closed for two days starting today following the excessive heat.

Nat’l pride, strategically important projects to get continuity in upcoming FY

Kailali, May 30: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, has said the projects of the current fiscal year mainly those of national pride and strategic importance will be continued in the upcoming fiscal year as well.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Press Chautari Nepal, Kailali today, the Minister said the government has mainly prioritised the continuity of the projects of national pride and those related to infrastructure development carrying strategic importance.

The Industry Minister was hopeful that internal and foreign investment will be escalated if the government goes on to remove policy-level hurdles.

As he said, the government has pursued a policy of promoting the youth’s entrepreneurship in industrial, IT, commerce, and supply sectors to discourage a rising human capital flight.  

Govt planning to implement Employment Bank, PM says

Biratnagar, May 30: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the government would implement the concept of Employment Bank to ensure employment to the available human resource on the basis of knowledge, skills and technical expertise.

The PM argued that the Employment Bank will deal with the issue of demand and supply of jobs and entrepreneurship development.

Addressing the Shramadhan Employment Fair here today, the PM said entrepreneurship development would be expedited by best utilizing the labour, skills and experiences of the returnee migrants and others staying within the country.

PM Prachanda said that the government has made needed provision in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget to ensure employment to as many as 100,000 returnee migrants as per their knowledge, capital, skills and technical expertise.

On the occasion, the PM said welfare of the workers will be protected for their good health and wellbeing to align the SDGs and policies and programmes of the government.

Similarly, the PM added that the government was working to increase domestic employment through entrepreneurship development by the proper utilization of remittance.

The PM said country’s prosperity and citizens’ wellbeing should be promoted by ensuring domestic jobs to the citizens in the long run.

“The government has planned to make the potential job aspirants more competitive by promoting their skills and capacity building. Implementation of employment fair will directly benefit large number of youths entering the labour market,” PM Prachanda said.  

Saying that the prosperity journey could be advanced through employment generation and development of decent labour, the PM appealed to the stakeholders for a joint effort and cooperation to materialize this.

The PM also termed the ‘Shramadhan Employment Fair’ a meaningful intervention and hoped that the fair will be instrumental to tap into the opportunities on labour and employment sector and to offer a one-stop solution to the problems.

Likewise, the PM shared that several new programmes have been introduced in the new budget for the upcoming fiscal year for employment creation, entrepreneurship development of returnees, revive the agriculture sector and others.

CPN (US) is in favour of present coalition: PM Dahal

Morang, May 30: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said the CPN (Unified Socialist) is in favour of present ruling alliance.  

Talking to media persons at Biratnagar Airport today, Prime Minister Dahal mentioned that he held talks with Chairperson of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and former Prime Minister, Madhav Kumar Nepal, this morning and received a clear response that the CPN (US) is in favour of the current power equation.

On a different note, he explained that the budget unveiled by the federal government for the upcoming fiscal year 2024/25 has addressed the demand of construction of a ring-road in Biratnagar and a demand for operation of a medical college and others concerns of Koshi Province.

Priority has been given to production, productivity and employment in the budget, the PM added.

Also the Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), PM Dahal expressed the view that government would be formed in Madhes Province as per the present ruling alliance.

HoR Committee endorses Bill to amend Constitutional Council Act

Kathmandu, May 30: A Bill aiming to amend the Constitutional Council (Functions, Duties, Powers, and Procedures) Act-2066 BS was endorsed by the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives.

A meeting of the Committee today passed the Bill with amendments, according to Committee President Ramhari Khatiwada.

The Bill had been pending for long in the Committee for lack f consensus among the political parties regarding the decision procedures of the Council.

The Committee endorsed a provision allowing the Council to make decisions in a meeting attended by the Council Chair and a 50 percent majority of the total members.

The meeting also discussed the schedule, time, place, and the presence of members in a meeting.

It has endorsed a provision that warrants the Secretary shall inform the members about a meeting date, time, and venue through a letter, which shall also be circulated digitally.

Previously, there was a provision requiring the Secretary to inform Committee members about the schedule, time, and venue of a meeting at least 48 hours before the meeting along with the meeting agenda.

The meeting added a provision requiring any member of the Council to inform the Chair at least 24 hours before in case of inability to attend the Committee meeting.

The Constitutional Council comprises the Chief Justice, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the National Assembly Chairperson, the leader from the major opposition party, and the Deputy Speaker as its members and is presided over by the Prime Minister.

The Constitutional Council has been formed as per Article 284 of the Constitution. Sub Article 1 states that there shall be a Constitutional Council for making recommendations for the appointment of the Chief Justice and Chiefs and officials of the Constitutional Bodies by this Constitution.

At the beginning of the meeting today, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, expressed her opinions on the Bill on behalf of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. As she said, it is not appropriate to introduce provisions capable of marginalizing an individual holding the executive post and creating an inconvenient atmosphere for performance.

We have firm support to present government: CPN (US) senior leader Khanal

Kathmandu, May 30: CPN (Unified Socialist) senior leader and former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has appreciated the upcoming fiscal year’s budget saying that it has created a ray of home among the citizens.

“This time, the budget has come up with priority to land reforms, agriculture revolution, cooperative, industrialization, education and health care sectors,” the former PM told the RSS correspondents Prakash Silwal and Ashok Ghimire in an interview. 

“The budget has unveiled projects to eradicate poverty, create employment and control the exodus of youths,” Khanal said. “It has something new and has spread positive and hopeful messages. As we are primarily for political stability and prosperity, implementation of such good programmes of the budget is yet to see,” Khanal viewed.

Asked about rumours on split in his party and shift in the alliance, Khanal said possibilities of changes in the ruling alliance in the hung parliament take place quite often but the current coalition has a long tenure to go. “Debates are taking place in our party too; they continue to remain. But, we have a firm support to this government,” Khanal said.

Likewise, he argued that the issues raised in the party’s internal discussions should not be brought to the public debate. “Our party could have made claim for premiership. Something could have been discussed internally. Such issues should be left for the level of political homework. The main thing is good-governance and political stability in the country. We are in this favour. To ensure political stability in the country, the political leadership should mobilize its mechanism being united for the country’s development and transformation,” according to Khanal.

Khanal mentioned that the government cannot ensure delivery if it failed to create a convincing psychology among the citizens for the nation’s stability and a certain direction.

Talking about the preparation of party’s general convention, leader Khanal said party’s General Convention is scheduled to take from June 30-July 4 in Kathmandu which would forward a process of socialist revolution and transformation as it is the era of socialist revolution and transformation. 

He further said the responsibility of taking the socialism-related programmes is on the shoulder of the General Convention, adding that socialism-related programmes would guide the party’s course of action, policy, principle, strategy and a path of the revolution and transformation.

Also the former Prime Minister, Khanal stressed that it has been around three years of the formation of the CPN (US) and the party would move ahead by reviewing the positive and negative comments received during the period, stating that party’s path to be adopted as per national and international contexts, course of action, policy, principle and programme would be passed from the general convention.

Similarly, responding to a query about policy-level dispute in reports to be presented in the General Convention, he explained that they have been thinking about making the party united and transformed and revolutionary as much as possible.

“We will raise Nepal’s communist movement from a new ground. The party will involve bringing all leftists together on the basis of purposeful unity even if all communist parties cannot be united. The General Convention should draw the conclusion for this,” stressed leader Khanal.

When asked whether he intends to take the party leadership, he said he is ready to do any roles to be assigned by the party’s upcoming General Convention. “I am prepared to contribute to the party in any capacity.” 

He also said that if there will be a competition for the party leadership in the upcoming Convention, it should not be considered otherwise. Competition is a democratic process.

Admitting a significant reform within the party was required, he said the existing structure of the party and working style will no longer lead us to a revolution.

Advising the party to adopt an effective ideologies and political mandate first and develop the organizational culture accordingly, the leader insisted on the need for a significant shift to its working style.

The senior leader of the CPN (US) said that unity among the leftist forces is necessary to take the nation towards a progression.

Kathmandu Valley temperature reaches 33 degrees Celsius

Kathmandu, May 30: The temperature across the country including the Kathmandu Valley has soared sharply, making the normal life difficult in the districts of Tarai.

Meteorologist at the Meteorological Forecasting Division Pratibha Manandhar said that the maximum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley reached 33 degrees Celsius today, marking a continued increase over the past few days.

The onset of the monsoon season is still expected in Nepal. While it has already reached India today, it is expected to take about a week to arrive During this time, temperatures are likely to soar further.

Similarly, the temperatures reached 36.6 degrees Celsius in Dipayal, 41 degrees Celsius in Dhangadhi, 42.5 degrees Celsius in Sadepani of Kailali, 41.2 degrees Celsius in Nepalgunj, and 38.6 degrees Celsius in Bhairahawa today.

Currently, Nepal is currently experiencing the combined effects of local winds, the Westerly wind, and the partial impact of a low-pressure system centered around Bihar, India.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, at present there is partly to generally cloudy in Koshi Province along with the hilly regions of the country and partly cloudy to mainly fair in the rest of the country.
