Kathmandu, July 20: The Democratic Thought Society (DTS) has urged the political parties associated to the newly formed government to make public the official commitment.
The urge was made in a concept note presented in an interaction programme ‘Present chemistry, commitment and responsibility’ organized by the Society to mark the 42nd Memorial Day of the people’s leader BP Koirala.
The Society has called for the disclosure of the commitments made between the leaders of two big constituents of the government, Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) with official decisions.
Senior advocate Harihar Dahal stressed the need to inform the general public about the minimum common programme of the coalition government.
“If the incumbent government equations are limited to the purpose of grabbing state powers, the credibility of the parties in the government will be eroded and the Constitution and the established democratic system will be at risk,” reads the concept paper.
Highlighting the issue of constitution amendment, senior advocate Dahal stressed the need to address the strengths and weaknesses of the constitution and enter into the issue of amendment.
A commitment has also been made among the major parties in the government on the issue of constitution amendment, another speaker Arun Subedi said, stressing the need to work towards resolving the problems of the common people through the present equation. Senior journalist Harihar Birahi said the parties involved in the present equation should be responsible for their commitment and stability.
Ex-president of the Society, Dr Kedar Narsingh KC demanded openness of the commitment made between the leaders of the two parties in the government. Society President Kulchandra Wagle had presided over the discussion which was focused on the concept paper. —
