Weather turning cold with departure of monsoon

Published Date : October 15, 2019

Kathmandu, Oct 15 : With monsoon making its exit from Nepal last Saturday, cold is on the gradual rise across the country.

Meteorologist at Meteorological Forecasting Division, Ganga Nagarkoti said with the departure of monsoon, the temperature starts going down.

“In Nepal, winter begins with the impact of Westerly wind,” Nagarkoti added. As the Division said, cold is being felt throughout the country including in the Kathmandu Valley due to impact of cloud built following the formation of a trough in the troposphere from the west Mediterranean sea and wind originated from the Arab Sea.

This year, the departure of monsoon was delayed than the normal time. Tentatively, monsoon enters Nepal on June 10 and departs on September 23. Temperature will dip with the exit of monsoon, meteorologists said.

Minimum temperature is expected to fluctuate due to a seasonal effect. Cold is being felt in Kathmandu in the morning and evening.

The Division has forecast the occurrence of fog and mist in the morning for some days, causing general disturbance in air flights and road transport, urging the bodies concerned to be aware of this possibility.

The latest data released by the Division shows that the Kathmandu Valley’s minimum temperature today was 14.5 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature was measured 27.3 degrees Celsius.

The lowest temperature 7.5 degrees Celsius today was measured in Jumla and the highest temperature 32.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in Dhangadhi.
