Free cataract surgery for 15 persons

Kathmandu: Altogether 15 persons suffering from cataract have been benefited with surgery performed free of cost on the occasion of the World Sight Day 2020.

The Lions Club of Kathmandu Samarpan, and Kirtipur Eye Hospital and Research Centre jointly undertook the initiative to help correct the vision problems of those having cataract.

The beneficiaries were from Chandragiri Municipality of Kathmandu district, according to Deepak Bansal, President of Lions Club of Kathmandu, Samarpan.

Apart from cataract surgery, the patients were distributed medicines free of cost, informed Dr Binita Sharma.

The patients undergoing surgery need not pay extra money for follow-up visits to the doctors as well. The humanitarian organization has also set up the ‘Oxygen Bank’ to provide bottled oxygen to the COVID-19 patients with low income.

Earlier, 17 persons from Kirtipur Municipality having eyes disease related to ageing were benefited from the cataract surgery.
